Can Someone explain the plot??? (SPOILERS)

(Spolier alert) I didn't read the book, just watched this TV-movie from 2004 on Lifetime & am trying desperately to make sense of it. From what I understand, 3 women were raped, another killed, & then their supposed rapist Eddie Como is shot & killed by a sniper on his way to trial.

Then, the cop who investigates, it turns out, is connected to a serial killer David Price, who was once the cop's next-door neighbor & murdered many women, including cop's own wife. Now, from jail, it seems that this mastermind killer David Price has been able to use an apprentice killer to frame the innocent Eddie & that Price's doing so was some kind of revenge on the cop played by James Remar.

How was masterminding the rapes of 3 women unconnected to Remar's character any revenge on Remar? (It would have made sense if they were women already in the cop's life but the women were strangers to him) Was it revenge b/c he wanted to humiliate Remar by masterminding an unsolvable crime? Did it have something to do w/ Price having fathered a child by one of the women he had his apprentice rape?

I am so confused. None of the above made any sense at all to me. Someone please explain, I am so frustrated after spending 2 hours watching this...

Also I was really disappointed by how little Jacqueline Bisset was in this. The second hour, she is barely in it at all. This character could have been seen in one scene and nothing in the plot would be altered.

I assume from other posts that the book was much better.

Again, this was TERRIBLE!!! And I am someone who usually loves Lifetime thrillers and most 80's and 90's TV-movies. At least there is usually an attempt to explain the plot at the end, no matter how ridiculous. This left me hanging big time. Awful.
