I really like the atmosphere of Silent Hill... feels like a place that could be real and might have been lived in until something terrible happened. I like how there's a tension between sombreness and urgency, solitude and being trapped. Are there any other good films that have these kind of feelings and atmosphere? I was too scared to play the Silent Hill game when it first came out, but was mesmerised by the film :)

Those emotional states perfectly describe the classic Western High Noon. I'll try to think of a few others, but 1SH was special because so few films are like it.

Thanks! I have never been a fan of Westerns, but have put it on my watchlist in case I'm ever in the mood for something a bit different

Also Excalibur from 1981 popped into my head. The quest for the Holy Grail part felt a bit like Silent Hill.

The Asian horror flick Infection captures the SH aesthetic very well. It's quite creepy and if you're patient enough to read subtitles, its safe to assume you'll enjoy it.

I last saw it posted on YouTube a few months ago.

The Mist - the book was one of the inspiration for the games and it shows in the movie, it also has Laurie Holden.

Stranger Things - I know it's not a movie but the shows does have similarities, especially the upside-down world.
