has spike been taking the heat for michael genet?

Don't get me wrong, this movie is spike's fault. he is "the name", he is the final say, he is the director - but it seems, as far as this movie is concerned, michael genet should be thrown in the flames as well. is it because people are so used to bashing spike that he's the easier target? He got flack for the 25th hour script and he didn't even write it. It seems that spike was once again using his star-power to let another person shine with less than stellar results. he did it with clockers, the 25th hour, Love & Basketball and The Best Man with pretty successful results but with this movie he just set himself up for a good bashing.
