So Disappointed in This Chaos!!

I am a fan of Spike Lee, have been since 'She's Gotta Have It' and 'School Daze'. I even own his lesser known films like 'Crooklyn', 'Bamboozled', and 'Clockers'. HOWEVER, 'She Hate Me' has got to be one of the worst films I have seen in years. There was no point to the plot, poor acting, misplaced gratuitous sex scenes, and just way too many subplots. Hey, this movie even had sequences of animated sperm, yes you read that right, ANIMATED SPERM. It was as though Spike has lost it and starting ranting on film about random topics that popped into his head.

I support Black movies, even the B-level ones that star down and out rappers and such. But this is one movie that I would have to say pass on. You wont be missing anything if you dont waste your time or money on 'She Hate Me'.

Btw, I still dont understand how the title corresponded with the film. Yes, I heard the explanation given by the characters but still---it didnt make sense...

Couldn't agree more Miss Lady
except for one thing - the actors
I think they did what they could with what they were given
and were blinded by the idea of working with spike
love or hate him he is still Spike - starmaker to many
too bad it sucked so bad
but I don't blame the actors for this crap

such crap

makes me long for catwoman 2
at least it won't pretend that it's deep.

I agree. The movie did have potential to be interesting. But it took too long to get there, and flopped around too much. Basically, it was a VERY LONG agenda-ridden exercise of random thought.

On some level, Spike knew the viewer had to suspend belief, and he helped us by showing the Red Bull and Viagra scenes. But the rest of the movie did NOTHING to help us go along to get along. Like the reviewer said above, the movie makers tried to explain how the title fit in with the movie, but it never really worked. They tried to insert the moral and spiritual voice (the bike riding scene) into the movie, but it never did work. The main character "Jack" did the right thing in whistle blowing, but couldn't even conceive (no pun intended) of the right thing when the issue was mass baby production. The idea just never really did work.

I will say this, though...I loved the "look" of this movie...especially the scenes outside of the office; i.e. Q-tip and "Jack" walking on the steps. Very vibrant and inviting. It wasn't overly done in the way Spike Lee sometimes does, but it was gratifying and solid to watch -- with the sound off and no captions!

Why didn't they just focus on the whistleblower aspect of the movie and not that lame knocked-up lesbian crap? Kind of funny how all these lesbians wanted to get pregnant at the same time. They had more lesbian friends than I have gay and straight combined.

Miss Lady you hit the nail on the head. I was eargerly anticipating a new Spike flick...for this bull to follow Bamboozeled? I don't understand. Spike has had my undivided attention since '86, and the movies got chronologically brilliant, but this film was a real dissapointment. Spike is known for his controversial plotlines, but in the sea of topics to choose from (especially dealing with our people), he fished out this crap? Spike is still the best director in the business and to have one lousy movie in a 20 year career isn't bad odds at all....I just expected more from you Spike!

Peace & Blessings

i, too, am in agreement with miss lady and jazzijenni. i finally rented this film, knowing its premise (and not really finding it very intriguing), but decided "it's spike, so let me give it a try." after watching it, i honestly wanted to ask him for my two hours or so back. i was so very disappointed. the plot was disjointed and far too unbelievable, and spike was on his soapbox very obviously in many instances in the movie...i could go on. i love spike's work to pieces, but this one was just wrong in so many ways.

the only five minutes that i wouldn't ask back is the watergate scene when the guardsman who uncovers the unlocked doors at watergate encounters the thieves themselves in the parking garage. 'quite funny and nice little commentary on the country's treatment of high-power crooks.
