It was Spike Lee has said as much in interviews etc. Its also mentioned in the "Trivia"section of the films info here on IMDB(however often things in the trivia, and bios should be taken w/ a grain o salt.Things are added by folks based on rumor and gossip sometimes. Also to actor/actresses upcoming films are sometimes only rumor or conjecture)
