LOVED this movie!

Loved this movie! Definitely a cult-favorite of mine. I think this film quite clearly hit a chord, button, sore spot (or what have you) for many people as evidenced by the reviews here - people who don't like what Spike is showing them. That Spike shows society for what it really is - without the varnishing and narcissism that makes most movies depict society as 'essentially noble' and people as essentially good. He shows society as it is...with all the grime. There's even the touch of what I call Spike surrealism in this movie (as in most of his movies - it's a trope of his).

Reading some of the critics of this film..you can just SEE their contempt for black people (one reviewer describes Spike's "40 acre and a film" corner as a ghetto filled with the unemployed and trash...no racial, white-supremacist inflammatory buzz-concepts there...no). Another reviewer was mad because there were too many black people in the film - and they were in positions of power! How dare he!! - A black judge - AND a black lawyer - AND the S.E.C. prosecutor was black!?!?!? Oh no - that CAN'T be realistic - can it(!?!?) - It's hilarious how Spike's films make the real filth of people's true beliefs come out and rise to the top.

This was an extremely interesting film with a brilliant cast. It's definitely in my top five of cult favorites.
