they're lesbians!!! so why is it that............... ...............

.............spike would have the script make them get excited about seeing a man's penis? When jack stripped and the lesbians were all looking at him, they were saying "i'll pay for that!!!" that is COMPLETELY unrealistic. he could have played that scene differently, maybe had the lesbians saying things like...

"I guess that'll have to do" or "I've seen bigger" or even "is it supposed to look like that?"

my point is, it's unrealistic for women who are supposed to be lesbians to become sexually aroused by seeing a man naked

i just saw the movie and spike lee has lost his damn mind

reply

all of them wasnt excited maybe just the paula jai parker character and another woman and some were bi or at one point was with a man , i think spike and the writer were showing that even though a lot of woman claim to be lesbians sometimes that is not the case ,they are even angry at men(due to bad relationships with men) ,curious or just plain bi-sexual,think that having different types of women made sense to me, the movie wasnt one of his best but i get the point, and also in fairness im not a lesbian ,so i may be completely off! coming from a male point of view

reply

Sounds plausible to me. They got off a little too much during sex, though, like most of the first group might rethink their sexuality.

Why wouldn't it be normal for a lesbian to enjoy having sex with a man but enjoy sex with dildos or vibrators (which a lot of lesbians I know use btw)? Personally, I don't even know if I really buy into these "strictly straight" or "strictly gay" labels and identities. If you can fall in love with a man for who he is why can't you fall in love with a woman for who she is?

reply

The same reason a straight woman might enjoy it if a man ate them out but would be disgusted by a woman doing the same thing.

It is very possible to be strictly straight or strictly gay. There are a lot of men in my life who I love dearly but I'm never going to fall IN love with them because physically, emotionally and spiritually they are not what I want or need.

reply

Sexual pleasure =/= Sexual preference
Physical pleasure =/= Psychological pleasure

Because some of the women seemed to at least somewhat enjoy the experience doesn't mean they're kind of interested in men. I hate to say this but if a straight man is tied down and another man has his way with him the straight man will become erect at some point, orgasm and ejaculate against his will. Even though he may have psychologically and emotionally hated what happened to him he did feel PHYSICAL pleasure on some level. Though of course this is something he would never want to admit, maybe not even to himself.

Because the straight man felt pleasure being raped/molested by another man doesn't mean he is actually gay deep down inside or bi-curious.

That's why I don't like these "A LESBIAN WOMAN WOULD NEVER.....[X]!!" sentiments. Because a woman doesn't like men sexually/romantically doesn't mean they wouldn't involuntarily feel pleasure if a man was going to town on them. Doesn't mean they're now somehow less of a lesbian or semi-interested in men because their body reacted to stimulation.

reply

The reality is this movie was written by two men. I personally enjoyed it to some extent, but was frustrated at the same time. I feel it is hard for men to really believe that women could find no attraction what so ever to the "Prized Possesion". There were mixed emotions shown during the revealing of his penis, but all in all, it was a man's perspective on a hypothetical situation. (But I am not a lesbian so this is just my interpretation)

I really wish that the content of the movie had been better promoted. I was not interested in seeing a flick about a man getting paid to fetilize a bunch of lesbian's eggs. But the underlying plot was well worth the watching.

My bigger problem was in the end with the final outcome of the relationship between Jack, Fatima and Alex. THIS SCREAMS THAT A MAN WROTE THIS MOVIE.

reply

i did think the ending was corny!! and im a man

Well, they couldn''t have been confirmed lesbians, since both went for dick. Fatima always wanted both.

"Well they wanted to get pregnant so a bigger dick is a better sign for getting pregnant"

Lol. That is hilarious. A penis is not needed at all. Sperm is needed, and it can be done in a lab, or inserted in another manner.

reply

You didn't understand what the man said.

"Well they wanted to get pregnant so a bigger dick is a better sign for getting pregnant"

That does not mean you cannot get pregnant without a dick. He's talking about what anthropolgists/biolgists/survival-of-the-fittest ppl will say.

He is saying that just like men [sub]consciously prefer a woman with big tits, or big hips cos for whatever reasons that have been programmed into us by nature, that women can also want bigger dicks. Bigger dicks, broader shoulders, rougher looking features -- whatever etc etc. It does not mean that you cant get pregnant by a smaller dick. I mean, can't I also say that a hip is not needed to nurse a baby? (therefore, that a womb (and a few other things) is all you need to nurse a baby?) But of course we know hips dont have anything to do with being pregnant. It's just a biological programming thing.

i'm tired of the blanket statements regarding "all lesbians" or "all men" that some of you people are throwing around.

people seem to feel incredibly threatened by the fact that "some" of the women in this movie who profess to lead a lesbian lifestyle could possibly seem to enjoy having sex with the male protagonist.

by your definition, a lesbian is a woman who could never conceivably feel pleasure when engaged in intercourse with a male.

sorry to burst your bubble, but that thinking is plain wrong.

... just like it's wrong to think that a professed homosexual male could never feel pleasure from sex with a woman.

... just like it's wrong to think that a professed hetero male could never feel pleasure from sex with another man.

... just like it's wrong to think that a professed hetero female could never feel pleasure from sex with another woman.

sexual pleasure does not equal sexual preference.

not to mention the fact that, not all the women enjoyed their experiences with Jack... some of them actually looked repulsed and disgusted.

reply

I understand what you're saying poet. But even if you're exclusively dating women it doesn't mean you don't see beauty anywhere else. And take the fact this script was written by men into consideration.

What you've never seen a dick in a lockerroom? Grow up dude. It's just a dick. Do girls get all "ew boobies" whenever a chick takes her shirt off onscreen? No, they just watch the movie.

reply

I just saw this movie recently and I agree to some point that they shouldn't have had to have had sex with a man to get pregnant. The way Spike made it seem is that you NEED to actually have sexual intercourse with a man to get pregnant, cause the one character that wanted it in a cup could not conceive. From my perspective (the lesbian since 5th grade) I think that that was very unrealistic and even though some of them were "bi' what about being faithful to your partner? Oh but because it was a business deal it was ok. Lol....If I were the lesbian consultant this movie would have come out a lot different.

Peace

reply

In the locker room I try not to look.

reply

I figured the 'real' point of the scene was the lesbians feeling all 'empowered' because they were objectifying him by his penis size -- like men with a woman's breast size

reply

I think Spike Lee was trying to make a point with this movie, but teh only way for audiences to stay interested was to put a lot of sex into it. especially lesbian sex! I mean did you notice how long the movie was? And yes the ending was corny because REAL lesbians wouldn't really want to kiss a man.

reply

Good, because if you do look, you automatically turn gay.

reply

I'm a lesbian and I was a little offended by this movie, not to a grave extent becauase it's just a movie. But what I found the worst display of male pride ever is the fact that the women had sex to get pregnant, no REAL lesbian would do that, if they did then...I doubt they'd enjoy it, otherwise there would be no point in lesbianism. The other crucial factor in me taking offence was that ALL the women got pregnant, apart from the one who wouldn't have sex with him. It's just small minded men trying to make themselves feel better. Decent enough movie though, the ending was somewhat pathetic.

reply

When I watched it, the point I saw was that they wanted to see his "stock" He may have degrees, etc, but does he have an ideal body to carry over the genes. A large penis, in this instance would mean good and virile genes, which, they would most definitely want. I think reading too much into the films' lesbians might undermind the whole idea behind it. I mean all types of lesbians were represented in a way from the "foxy" to the "butch". In a way you have to take it with a grain of salt because we all know Spike isn't sexist, and above all I doubt he would want to undermind anyone but those who deserve it.

reply

As a lesbian, I find it annoying in that in movies/t.v Lesbians have to have children. E.R, She hate me, Queer as Folk, The-L-word, they and many more have to have the lesbian mother storyline and it annoys me. It also makes me sick that these "lesbians" would have sex with a man and then have orgasms on top of that? The few lesbians I know that have children, either adopted, or get their children by IVF. The one girl I know that got pregnant by a guy, left her g/f for the guy and after he dumped her, went back to her ex g/f. *eyeroll* If a woman is sexually attracted to a guy and women, then call her bisexual and not a lesbian. Call her whatever you feel, but don't call her a lesbian because she's not. Thats like calling a wolf in sheep's clothing a sheep.

reply

But you have to be a lesbian in order to be "bisexual". That's like a guy who enjoys sex with men and women saying that he's "not gay".

What is all this about a lesbian not being able to enjoy sex with a man? It doesn't mean she's not a lesbian, it means that this person, who happens to be a man might be doing something right (however, I don't think ALL of those women straight or gay, would have enjoyed having sex with him because everyone is different and I don't believe one man could have that same physical connection with all women).

reply

Not sure if this is the correct interpretation, but i thought Spike was making a statement about male fantasies. i thought you were supposed to be painfully aware that it was written by a man, to make social commentary.

reply

"but i thought Spike was making a statement about male fantasies. "

No. He wasn't. He was indulging in his own fantasies..just like in She's Gotta Have It. (the female nymphomaniac is a male fantasy)

reply

I had to watch this movie a couple of times to actually get the point that Spike was trying to make. I think I figured it out. Whenever there is money involved, lies and sex are soon to follow. I listened to Spike's commentary and the scene where Jack is standing up naked and having the lesbians basically say they'll pay for his sperm, was based upon how slaves were sold back during slavery. After listening to Spike's commentary and then watching the movie again, I got a better understanding of what was really going on throughout that scene and the movie(as I stated before). I don't think the women were sexually aroused by Jack's penis, but it was the thought that the women wanted to have a baby. Several of the women even mentioned how they didn't want to take any chances with fertility and with them being lesbians, it was going to be harder for them to adopt so basically sleeping with Jack was the last option or hope for them to have a child.

reply

hmmmm... i wonder what Spike Lee was thinking about when he embarked on this film.there just seems to be too many stuff going underneath which makes you wonder what the whole movie was all about. on one hand u have this Frank willis/watergate/whistle blowing issue, on another u have the lesbian issue and on yet another u have the usual 'black thing' (case in ref. the gangsta conversation btwn the Italian mob guy and the lead xter). and am sure there just so many stuff bubbling in the unercurrent.

i really do think the movie premise of 18(i repeat 18) lesbians wanting to have babies thru sex with a man is just stretching reality too far. i mean this women became lesbians bcos they dont like dick. so why would they want to have babies that way (and enjoying it alot too) and of cos the only one that didnt want to sleep with our guy couldnt get pregnant until she jumped into the sack with the guy. come on spikey what r u on nowadays. also i really dont see the point with the Q-Tip xter though i do enjoy the scene where he talked about how much price a celeb semen will fetch. but he has too few scenes to make any reasonable impact as a close confidant.

am a black male and i have lived in a shared house with a white lesbian couple in England and it did alot to enlighten me about the nature of their relationship (i think). one of these ladies is bi and we have actually fooled around on one or two occasions, the other is completely gay and though am actually closer to her than her partner she does not find me sexually attractive at all and once told me that the thought of having sex with a man is so repulsive to her yet we r very good friends (unfortunately I am so so sexually attracted to her).

I think it's nice for spike to try to tackle this subject but he really stretched things way too far. Having a relationship with a lesbian couple ( a hot hot couple for that matter) has to be very near the top of most straight men desire list but i honest doubt if that kind of relationship can exist. having said all this rubbish, i think there were some good shots in the movie like when the doctor guy jumped out of the window and killed like 3 other pple by his sucide attempt. it just goes to show that if Spike can get his act together there's still alot of good movies for him to churn out yet.

reply

spike lee is one of the best directors ever, why are all you people hatin on him, this was a great movie.

reply

I think the biggest failing in this movie was the ending. I could see Fatima kissing Jack, and being all unresolved about her feelings, because she even admitted as much to Alex.

But Alex responding in the same way was pure betrayal. This chick was an actual out-lesbian, not some questioning, bi-curious ho. She knew that her woman had the hots for this guy. She would not be bringing him into their relationship. 1) EW! She's gay, She does not like men.
2)This guy is competition, he's totally after her woman.
3) If she figured that the only way to keep Fatima was to include Jack in their lives, well then thats truely *beep* pathetic.

reply

I agree with with.

reply

true. spike is out of touch with the lesbian community and he is just strokin his male ego, that's all. he would love to think that all lesbians have some attraction to men. just not true.

reply

I totaly agree with you. I am a REAL leasbian, and I would have never acted the way these women did, and I'm pretty sure most lesbians would agree. This movie made no sense.
1) First off, whatlesbian would pay a man $10,000 to impregnate her when it would be cheaper to go to the sperm bank?
2) Secondly, lesbians would not be that damn excited to screw a man. I know after seeing his penis, I would have just told him I'd rather use a turkey baster.
3) If Alex's charcater was fully gay, there's no way in hell, she would have let Fatima date Jack, let alone get with him herself in the end. I would have told him to hit the road,Jack!
4) The movie said that it had been some time since Fatima started dating women, yet her family still didn't know?
5) This is just like every other Hollywood movie with a lesbian, they think that all lesbians can be turned straight ot bi. I can't wait until I start making movies.

But you know what, there is still one very important reason why I still watch thismovie and bought the DVD

THE SCENE WITH FATIMA AND ALEX GRINDING IN THE KITCHEN IS SO HOT AND REASON ENOUGH.

reply

dollyp's reference to this "usual Black thing" makes me cringe. I think it's so ridiculous when people say things like that, in a movie with an all white cast do we call it a "usual White thing"? No, we don't. Secondly, I don't think there's "too much stuff going on" if you're able to pinpoint certain things that happen in the movie and notice parallels within what's really going on in society. Logically, it makes sense. Of course, I don't think this is Lee's best work but it isn't as bad as people made it out to be before I saw it. I have a lproblem with the fact that they may be trying to send a message that all women (inclusive of straight, lesbian, bi, whatever) have this inherent desire to become mothers. (On the nature vs. nurture spectrum, I'm leaning a little more towards the nurture part, as you've probably realized). Although I don't believe wanting or not wanting to be a mom has anything to do with sexual orientation. I don't think the lesbians (other than the very confused ex-fiancee) were sexually attracted to that guy or even wanted to have sex with him, but they obviously wanted children badly enough and saw this as a direct opportunity (which I could see a desperate straight woman doing too).

reply

you're right, he should have consulted a lesbian expert like you before he made this movie.

reply

lol, not a lesbian expert but, just happen to think he went a lil overboard and missed his "mark". There are many different types of people, Spike from time to likes to develop characters solely from a creative point of view (his own personal psyche), nothing wrong with that. Its just sometimes his vision of "what is" does not come across well with other filmmakers and "theatre goers".

reply

You are right on all accounts. This movie is nothing but an ignorant, sexistic and highly male indulgent piece of *beep* And I'm male, so when it's this obvious even to me...phew.

When I'm reading the other posts in this thread, I see a lot of rationalization. People are making excuses for Spike Lee's inane filmmaking. "Oh, she/they are probably bi", "Just because they're lesbians doesn't mean they can't appreciate a nice cock once in a while", "All lesbians are in reality cock-craving sluts who just haven't met the right man yet", "Please don't dislike any of Spike Lee's movies, because he's black and once, black people were slaves". *beep* Be quiet.

This movie sucks, just admit it.

"The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism by those who have not got it."
