Albrecht ! *spoiler*

I thought it was one of the best scenes I had seen in a movie in a long time. it was strange, and liberating in a way. Being under ice.

I just thought it was fantastic. I never cried so hard.

I love this film.

I thought it was very predictable and cheesy.

That scene made me get tears in my eyes. I told my mother to watch the movie a while after I did, and guess what... She said she also got tears in her eyes at that scene also hehe.

It was pretty much telegraphed from the grenade scene that Albrecht would drown himself in the ice drill.

As soon as the trainer explained the drill, I knew it. I think that was the intention of the writer/director - for the audience to know way in advance, even before Albrecht decided himself. So I started to tear up pretty early in the scene. He's one of the sweetest characters I've seen in the movies.

Did other posters notice at Albrecht's father's dinner party, one fellow Wehrmacht Officer tried to put Albrecht down by saying he wouldn't meet the height requirements for the Waffen SS? There was an awkward silence to follow.
In actual fact, height, and some other physical requirements were relaxed in 1938 (to 5ft 8ins), so Albrecht would have been accepted as an Officer, without doubts. (Perhaps more likely sent to one of the Alpine Korps, where I believe the height requirement was only 5ft 3ins or 5ft 4ins).
