second 'Turkish Star Wars'

This movie should be nominated to be the second Turkish Star Wars (Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam). There are a lot of scenes that refer to legendary Star Wars and Matrix sequels, however, I believe and it is obvious that G.O.R.A. was filmed much more seriously than Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam.

you think so?dünyayý kurtaran adam WAS filmed very "seriously" ,as you would say,it was filmed as an action sci-fi movie,G.O.R.A. is a comedy movie, and how could a movie that mocks other famous movies could be a "serious" one?it has no difference from scarry movie or hot shots. And the biggest reference in G.O.R.A.,as i can collect from the trailers,is to fifth element...

reply

By saying "serious", my implication was that the impression of the movie (Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam) to its majority of the audience is "comedy". Of course the director and the cast did NOT filmed it for fun or mocking other hollywood productions. Also by saying "serious", I imply the "technology" that was used in both films. Ok, to make you happy and relaxed, then let's name it "PROFESSIONALLY" rather than "SERIOUS".

On the other hand, as far as I got from the trailer, the movie makes a lot of references to Star Wars and Matrix. This is my point of view. Of couse some super hiper brilliant people can dig the movie and find other references too. Did I mention that the movie does not make any references to Fifth Element? What's that aggressiveness all about?

if you don't MEAN it than don't SAY it,and i am not agressive, well not yet:)
about the tech used in turkish movies,we're still a long way behind hollywood, but i can see that gora is the far best turkish movie ever done with special effects, and cg,and about the fifth element reference, think of the trailer and of Arif's words,"ateþ,su,toprak, tahta",and while watchning also heed attention to a scene where arif kisses some girl anf there are sparklings everywhere(if you've seen fifth element you'll remember)

reply

Assuming you an intelligent person, even though I don't MEAN it, you should be able to GET it:))

Of course I remember, but as I mentioned in my previous message that I did NOT say G.O.R.A. does not sent any reference to Fifth Element. The only thing I wanted to mention is, when I first saw the trailer (first impression), Star Wars (emperor, lightsaber, visual appearance of emperor as used in Princess Leia message through R2D2, Logar's dress) and Matrix (3D turning scenes of Cem Yilmaz, lighting the cigarette scene etc..) came to my mind.

I've not been aggressive YET, as well:)

I hope this mini quarrel between these two Turkish person lead our international friends to pay attention this enormously hilarious movie (at least, I am expecting it to be very hilarious)..

As another Turk anticipating the movie, I'm thrilled. Too bad it will be sometime before we can get the DVD here in the US.

My question is whether this really is a leap for special effects in Yesil Cam (=Green Pine, the nickname for the Turkish film industry - equivalent of "Hollywood")? Or did they get the special effects done abroad and/or by foreign specialists.

Both software and film industries were growing pretty wildly in Turkey last time I checked, so I wouldn't be surpsied if this was 100% Turkish.. But then again I can't help but remain suspicious of that.

Anyway- Special Effects are nothing without a good story and of course great jokes. But I assume that's not a problem with Cem Yilmaz on board.

Beam me up.

"G.O.R.A was aimed to be the first of its kind, not only with its plot but also with its production technique. i think they mean in Turkey The post production process that was carried out in digital atmosphere began in June 2004 aimeing to refect the results f combining the real surroundings with the 2 and 3 dimensioned effects, in the best possible way to the silver screen.

Thanks to the infrastructure that Sinemaj has recently formed, for the first time in Turkey a whole film was shot using HD technology, It was transferred to Sinefect and ABT - where the visual effects of the film were prepared - with Vodoo tapes that provided image at uncompressed HD resolution.

On Sinefekt and ABT's busy working process that started in July 2004, with the supervision of Visual Effects Supervisor Kývanç Baruönühe is a Turkish guy and Post Production Supervisor Defne Deliormanlýshe is a Turkish girl, close to 1000 2D and 3D effect practices were made. On this process taht went to till October 2004, the 2D compositing actions that took nearly 5000 hourse were done using 2 infernos, 2 flames, 1 HD smoke and 3 combustions, by a team of 11 people that came from different countries. At the same time Sinefekt's 3D animation team prepared the 3D visuals in the film such as "space ship", "Planet G.O.R.A", "war ships" and "fire ball". For "The City of G.O.R.A."'s day and night outbound shootings, 16 different matte paintings were prepared, aimed to be combined with 3D materials, with their sizes reaching up to 5000 pixels.

Also in another part of the site, it's stated that:

...Among the team that handled the digital effects were 3 French, 1 Mexican, 1 English and 1 American.

They are right, it can be said that this is the first movie using special effect in such extend. But 2D and 3D artists, and also CG artists are the most rapid growing young group in Turkey. They are young, talented and desirous. Let's wait and see what they can do more.

In addition to all these, that's a funny movie. But not more than Cem Yýlmaz's performance on the stage. Also this movie was unlucky because of its production company. That effected the 'timing'. The movie should be on cinemas about one and half year before. Cem Yýlmaz had another stand-up series in this period and with the quality of his show, the expectation of audience got higher and higher.
