So is it possible Agnes is still alive?

The body of the drowned woman definitely had longer hair and both William and Cheesman commented on "her beautiful hair" not knowing ( as Sugar does )that she had cut it off before leaving the house. Sugar appears to register surprise when Cheesman mentions Agnes's hair, so possibly she realizes Agnes was not the woman found on the beach. At the end it looks to me like Sugar and Sophie are taking the same route Agnes did, possibly in search of her?

Agnes may be alive. The body that was identified as her clearly wasn't, due to the hair. But Sugar doesn't know what town Agnes went to. She didn't tell her where to go, just to pick a place, and that because she picked it it will be the right one. Then to walk to the country and ask how to get to the convent.

Not sure Sugar is trying to take Sophie to see Agnes. Agnes probably wouldn't be any more pleased to see Sophie now than she had ever been. And as Agnes could literally be anywhere you can catch a train fro London...
