why do the phones not ring?

How do they know to answer

reply

Thank God I wasnt the only one who noticed it, I watched the movie the other day and everyone just kept randomly answering the phone even though there was no ring tone I THOUGHT I WAS CRACKING UP !!!!!

I thought the audio on my TV had some weird problems. Is that how telephones are back then?

Maybe it's your dvd? I'm watching it right now on my laptop, and the phones do ring before they pick them up.

Just watched a bit on The biography channel and I wondered why Lee Majors asked Farrah to pick up the phone when it wasn't ringing!

It might be a post-production screw-up. (TV movies tend to be made down-n-dirty, with VERY short production schedules.)

On the set the phone probably wouldn't ring--especially not if they're using period phones (back when they actually RANG, instead of using an electronic chime). The sound effect gets added in later.

I suspect the sound crew forgot to add them in and no one noticed until it aired.

A lot of the phones didn't ring back in the 70's, they had buttons with lights on that just flashed when there was an incoming call, which you pressed to speak.

no, the phones definitely wring in the original series (just watched a bunch today). in fact, they always use the exact same recording of a phone ring, as they always sound EXACTLY the same, and not like they would in the room that they were in-- the rings must have been added in post. not sure why, though.
