The guest artists

His guests were kind of interesting. Dana Jester is my favorite, I've only seen two of his. He would mix his paint on his palette so slowly that it actually would put me to sleep. He moved sooo slowly, and talked so quietly, he was almost as bad (or as good) as Bob Ross, but his paintings would look like Bob's, totally brimming with light and paint by the end of the 30 minutes.

But the funniest one I've seen was the girl who painted a baby Indian. I don't know why, the whole thing was just funny. "I thought today we'd paint a little baby Indian boy!"

I don't know why it is, but I've only seen one episode with a guest, and that was his son. Where I live, the PBS station plays "Best of the Joy of Painting", which is apparently some sort of syndication package which doesn't contain some of the earlier episodes. I'd like to see some of these guest shows, but I imagine it is hard to find someone with an interesting personality who can teach and do a painting in a half an hour.

Pretty much every episode is up on youtube. You can find all sorts of guests that came on the show, including his son. I've seen four others I think.
