Is he considered a good artist?

Not having any artistic talent myself, he's an art wizard in my eyes.

Just curious how the "academics" perceive him? (AKA "is Steven Seagal good cop?")

I have a friend who is an artist and she told me that she doesn't really consider him a good artist. She told me that what he does is very easy to do. I think she was jealous of him, though.

There is also an episode where he invited one of his art teachers to do a self-portrait, and Bob said when he was trying to do self-portraits of people, the teacher told him to stick with painting trees and all that, implying that he was bad at it. This was all said in a jokingly way, though.

So, I don't really know if he is considered a good artist, but like you mentioned, he looks good to me.

Speaking as an artist, I don't think someone could say either way. He made a lot of beautiful paintings, so I think he was pretty freaking good.

He never did complex techniques on his show, but that was never the point of the show. He was teaching beginner painting.

That is such a great response. Also, he was such an amazing person, he could draw stick figures and be loved by millions. He was an angel in earth. RIP Bob, you’re truly missed.

I would never consider him an artist let alone a good one.he is to fine art what KISS is to great rock and roll or mcdonalds is to fine food.this is the type of art you see at those big art sales where no painting is over $19.95. bobs only equal was bill alexander who painted are even worst junk.a few steps above them is Thomas Kinkade.people paid thousands for what is nothing more than prints and now they are practically worthless.

Considering everything that went into the paintings we see on the show (his goal was to teach as easily as possible how to paint these elements; he had tv restrictions; he had limited time; he had not much artistic freedom), he was an excellent artist.

But from an academic pov, that doesn't mean much.
However, from an historical perspective, he is quite an important artist, a his reach and influence trascends the limits of many modern artists.
