So, how is it going?
Did you like the game?

The only problem I've had with the game was that it crashed, but it was close to the end (3rd CD). I reinstalled the game and it went allright. Try reinstalling the codecs - I am using one of those codec packs and I haven't got a problem till now (not just this game, but other and movies, etc.)

reply

[deleted]

First you have to uninstall any previous codecs (that might be the tough part, carefull not to remove something valuable).
Then install one of them codec pack (they have all the codecs you need video + audio)
For example this one (I use it):
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

There are others on the website.
Download, install and you are all set.

Yessss, exactly!

Some of the puzzles were pretty mindless, yes.

But te whole atmosphere of the game and the music , oh the music and the great ending - to me this game was even better than a good movie or a good book!
I am waiting for the new one as well!

You are so right!!!

A friend of mine promised to bring me the Longest Journey and should do so in a few days! I can't wait. I saw some screenshots in the web - oh boy!

[deleted]

Yes I stumbled upon Dreamfall while surfing the web. Looks quite good. Do you know where I can download a demo? There wasn't one on the official site.

Oh, I am here mate. Just having some problems lately...that occupied most of my time and didn't have any time to even start my computer.

And I got "The Longest Journey", but haven't played it yet. I wanted to set my things straight and then to have a few free days days to play it undisterbed you know.

By the way have you heard of NiBiRU? The guy who gave me TLJ suggested that one as well.

reply

[deleted]

Oh, it is nice talking to you too, mate!
Still haven't started TLJ though. Didn't have any free time.

What about you, are you playing something?

I can't believe we haven't brought up Fahrenheit before. I also fineshed it recently, well about a few months ago. It was an amazing game, it totally occupied my mind the first few days I was playing it, but it started geting closer to the cliches used in most of the sci-fi movies/games and the feeling was lost. And the tupical Hollywood ending was crap (some of the alternate enings were nice though). I got the feeling the ending was kinda rushed.

Anyway I started TLJ today (about 1 hour ago), just like you said, it is eveining now and I think it is starting to rain, cause I can hear the thunders. It couldn't be better...

Whatever you do in life, play Dreamfall.

I really liked that! And I promise you I will! But can you tell me the system requrements of the game? Because my computer is not the latest in technology...
Although Dreamfall seems like a very good reason to upgrade, doesn't it?

I haven't got the chance to play TLJ for more than an hour, so I haven't advanced very much, I hope that I will have more time in future. Although the story is getting more and more complicated - I am still in Arcadia now and have to figure out how to return this wierd talking bird to an old sailor with a non-treasure chest. Bring any memories?

And one more thing - my brother brought a game recently, a game called the Neverhood. I haven't played it but by what I have seen - the game is amazing. It is a bit weird but funny as hell. It is made in 1996, so it is quite hard to find but if you can find it, you should definatelly play it.

Well I got to run to class now...

I liked the line that I quoted. And somehow I thought you played the first part long time ago, or did you replayed it?

Anyways, how is it going with Dreamfall?

Something terrible happened. As I was playing TLJ - on the second CD, when I need to go in the Police Station, to recover some files for the kid, the game crashed. I tried it at least 10 more times and it is the same. I am currently looking for solutions of the problem in the net.

And how is Grim Fandango? I will try to find it when I finish TLJ. I have heard good stuff about it.

Hi again,
sorry for beeing late.

A few days agoI downloaded a patch for the game - can you imagine on www.thelongestjourney.com in the "patch" section was a file called "police station fix" or something like that. I downloaded it and it did the trick!
Although I found out that there was a way around - that was a bummer.

Monkey Island (especialy the 3-rd one) is one of my favourite games - my cellphone even rings with the main tune :) Generally all of the LukasArts games are tremendeously funny. I guess Grimm is not an exception? Have you played Monkey Island 4? I started it some time ago but couldn't finish it - it had some really annoying sequences. I hope that is not the kind of annoyance you have encountered in Grim. Anyway I will most likely play it after I finish TLJ. That is if I don't find Dreamfall!

Hey man, what's up? Still around?
My winter break just started, so I'll finally be able to finish TLJ. By the way my brother - who doesn't have that much stuff to do. Finished TLJ and then finished Dreamfall. The bad news is that I couldn't help but notice some moments of the game while he was playing and this kind of spoiled it for. And the good is that the game runs pretty good on my PC and the graphics are amazing. Just can't wait.

And how are you doing? Anything new?
(I hope they don't mind that we use this board for our talks )

I just had to share this,
A friend of mine that knew how excited I was about adventure games, gave me the game Silent Hill 2 for PC. He asked for an adventure game and this is what they gave him at the store(he doesn't know much about games). And to tell you the game rocks. Have you played it? Well it does gets quite weird at points but is a very nice game, the puzzles are pretty simple but other than that the game rocks. I do recommend to try it if you can. But all those games prevent me from finishing the TLJ. They don't call it the Longest Journey for nothing.

The Syberia games are very cool. My brother finished them both. I never started them though. I was thinking of and then I got the Black Mirror and Sanitarium (an old masterpiece) and finished them instead.

Actually the controls are not that bad; the camera is a bit tricky; sometimes it just freezes in front of me as if I was looking through the monsters eyes and can't realy know what is going on, only the creepy static on the radio. May be it is supposed to be that way I don't know. And the sound simply disappears sometimes, but other than that the game is cool and the graphics are very good.
So you have played the four of them? wow. There is no pc-port for the first one so if I can get courage I'll play the third and fouth next.

My brother says the same thing! Finish a game before you start a new one. The worst thing is that all those games stay on the harddisk and take a lot of space.
I'll not start any more games before those I promise

Yeah I watched the Silent Hill movie and really liked it. Although the creature Pyramid Head had no room in it. It was strictly James's creation right? Other than that I think the movie did managed to capture the spirit of the game. I can't wait for a second movie; and I've heard that the second movie is gonna be about SH2, that is james;s story. Isn't it great?

Kingdom Hearts - wasn't this the game with the Disney characters? I've never played it, but I've heard it is quite fun.

[deleted]

Why so surprized? I mean you like it right? I don't know where I heard, I think from a forum somewhere...

About the game: this might not be really legal but why don't you get the game for the Advance and play it with an emulator on your pc? It is not that good quality wise but it will certanly be much more cheaper.

reply

[deleted]

Hmm you won't beleive this, but I actually finished The Longest Journey just yesterday. The ending was not as satisfactory, I think Runaway actually has the best ending ever! Very optimistic and open - truly the best way a game can end. Anyways I got Grim Fandango, Many Kalavera is the man! Or the sceleton! I'll probably postpone Dreamfall till the end of Grim. Is it long?

Also I just watched a movie called Stay Alive, you can check it here, it was nothing special but first Samaire Armstrong was on it (man she is hot), and second the first movie about games which is almost accurate. There they mention a game called Fatal Frame. It is a real game, but only for Play Station 2. Have you played it? What is it about?

Hi,
I'm back !
So I'm guessing you are from Sweeden? Well I am from Bulgaria and I spent the summer in the US and had no computer at all, till the last two weeks when I bought a laptop. And no games either, it was a long summer.

You are really a fan of the classics ha? I am playing Grim Fandango myself right now, but I am stuck on the balcony with the string of ties. I have to get on the other side, but I don't know how. It is obvious that I have to throw the rope, but it doesn;t work. Do you remeber what to do?

I am currently playing Silent hill 3 as well. The game is very good, it is just that the plot does not make sence and all the folks including the main girl seem to accept all the creatures too easy. Heck, James screamed his lungs out when he saw the first monster and he was a marine. Silen hill 2 was way better plot wise. Though the 3rd is more dynamic and with better graphics which makes up for it I guess. Have you seen promo of the 5th one? it is gonna be a killer.

reply

[deleted]

Haha friend, sorry about that. I just saw your post in the Mr.Brooks thread.
Your story about your friend, the one you used to play games with is quite similar to me. As I told you I spent this summer in the USA and lived with my best friend from highschool for about a month. He moved to America some years ago and we acctually hadn't seen each other for about that time. We didn't played adventures though - we played Counter-strike and a lot of chess - we like to compete a lot. In a friendly way that is. BUT we did watch a lot of horror movies - we screamed like bitches at "1408". Did you see it? And thanks for the English remark - this exact friend was making fun of my English the whole time - I should show him your post. And your English is quite good too, I don't think it is any worse than mine.

Anyway what is that about being scared from TLJ? Common you have finished Silent Hill. By the way I am gonna watch Session 9 tonight, in Silent Hill 3 there is a scene taken from this movie.

ANd I haven't played Dreamfall yet. Will do soon though. ABout your questions I did found her sexuality to be e bit out of place in the game. And I always thought she had a crush on Cortez, I think he was the wrong guy.

Yeah I hope Max Payne the movie is good, speaking of movies based on games, have you seen hitman?

reply

[deleted]

Well I am not too deep either. About her sexuality - remeber that scene where the guy in the flying thing (burns flipper was it?) asks her if she is a virgin? It was funny but it didn't fit in the rest of the game. That and that dude that was harrasing her to go out with him. Most adventures stay away from the subject. Don't get me wrong April is hot... it is just it is this surreal adventure and all of a sudden... sex. I didn't explained myself good but anyway it is not that big of a deal. Anyone can interpret it, its own way. About the one she likes/loves who else besides Cortez is there?

And I officially start Dreamfall tomorrow! And the girl on the poster (I assume that is not April) is really hot! Zoe is it? Will keep you updated how the game is going! Thanks for not spoiling it for me. I hate when my friends do that!

Wow, you two sure do post here a lot. I have never played this game. Is it fun.(Runaway) What is the game you were talking about in your last post pulp fiction47.

reply

Wow we have a third wheel. Kidding
Runaway is an amazing adventure game with a unique atmosphere. It is definatelly worth playing. Asuming you like adventure games that is...
Pulp fiction was talking about The Longest Journey, another amazing adventure game. But I think it would be best to leave pulp fiction47 tell you about TLJ
He is obsessed with the game. In a good way of course.
