Help us get the first onmyoji novel translated!

Hi there

Thanks to the ONMYOJI films, many Westerners know about Baku Yumemakura's literary series of the same name. What many Westerners don't know is that the "onmyoji boom" started a couple years prior to Yumemakura's books with the publication of a novel entitled TEITO MONOGATARI by bibliophile and folklore researcher Hiroshi Aramata. TEITO MONOGATARI, an equally successful bestseller, is set in prewar Japan and revolves around Yasunori Kato, a master onmyoji who is also a demon that wants to cripple the Japanese Empire. Eventually he runs afoul of the Tsuchimikado Family, the official descendants of Abe no Seimei, leading to a magical conflict spanning 90 years of Tokyo's history. It is believed that Yumemakura was inspired by the popularity of this novel and went on to write his own Abe no Seimei/onmyoji focused series in response. Thus without TEITO MONOGATARI, it's unlikely we'd even have the ONMYOJI books or films.

If you would like to see TEITO MONOGATARI translated, please visit this Facebook page and show your support, specifically clicking the "Like" button:

Our hope is that once we assemble enough of a fanbase and show that there is interest in onmyoji related fiction in the West, then publishers will be more willing to translate other onmyoji related literature...especially Baku Yumemakura's novels. :)
