Thought about Artie/Mike plot

I've wondered if the intent of the Artie/Mike plot was that Artie was what Mike would become if he didn't get over his jealousy ... that he was in essence the "spirit of Christmas yet to be" for Mike. Does that make sense? To me, that ties up part of the plot issues others have had (how Artie found Mike's apartment, how he knows Mike's favorite cookies, the glass angel replacing the onen Mike broke when he knocks the guy into the Christmas tree) It doesn't tie together seeing Mike as his ex-wife though ....

Just throwing it out there as another possibility - it worked for me to show why Mike could convincingly change his jealous behavior if he believes that it could end up killing his soon-to-be wife.

That's the way it seemed to me. Artie was Mike's future.

This is not a clever movie. Everything is far too obvious / nothing is subtle - especially the Paul Walker storyline. It's exactly as the OP says plus the Artie side of the story (assuming he was a real person and not an actual "ghost of Christmas future"), which is that he was longing for forgiveness and Mike finally gave it to him.

What really annoyed me in this whole storyline was how weird and irritated both he and his cop buddy got everytime there was a gay insinuation. Their juvenile reactions to the thought of this guy hitting on him, then the bit where the partner gets offended that men wouldn't turn their heads to look at him (wtf-the whole scene in the coffee shop was like this scene from The Room https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCVSyhjBhro ), then when they get aggressive towards Artie and then the scenes at the hospital with the gay nurse and the stupid series of misunderstandings... It's like the whole thing was written by a homophobic 15-year-old.
