No way is this anything like Early Jackson

No way is this movie ANYTHING close to Jackson's Dead-alive. Most ALL of the gore was CGI. NO MAJOR blood-letting that I could see. Most of the gore scenes were done in the dark, and the splashes of blood WERE so CGI anyone with half a brain could tell. It TRIED to be hyper-gory, but failed HORRIBLY. Maybe if the director gets a little guts and makes a REAL movie I will think differnet of him. I heard the effects took over a YEAR to do! What a waste of time. It was DECENT, but nothing like the master of gory carnage Jackson has ever done.
ANyone know any cool Alien-gore flicks besides the obvious? I have seen Alien Contamination and Alien 2 from Italy, but any others?

Effects have moved on since Peter Jacksons early films. Fair enough there was a fair bit of CG but I didn't feel it detracted from the film at all.

I think it did. The blood could have been better had they NOT use crap CGI effects for the blood splatters and stuff. Dead-Alive was GREAT BECAUSE it did not use those type of effects and was by far the most violent and gory horror movie ever created.
I'm not saying this movie was really that bad because it wasn't I just don't think people should be comparing it to early Jackson is all I'm saying and YES Jackson is a sellout and that pisses me off

I just love i when undersexed lonely twats rant about someone "selling out". Heres a little tip just becuase someone doesnt do something you dont like it doesnt make them a sellout. He's doing what he loves, and making films he wants to. I would love Pete to make more splatstick films (Braindead is my fave film of all time), but I dont begrudge him for not doing so.

Perhaps you should grow up a bit and just get over it.

Oh and I agree the CGI did detract from the "gore" scenes, it made a on ok film less than i could have been.

We have such sights to show you.

Dead Alive is great for so many more reasons than the effects. I hope you can understand that.

Peter Jackson is an OUTSTANDING director and that is why he gets to make films like LOTR, King Kong, etc. There is no such thing as a 'sell-out', no one becomes successful by accident.

Possibly because those style of effects werent available when Dead Alive was made...

This movie was made on a low budget, the effects done on the cheap and it turned into an excellent fun splatter film. If you want a jackson movie go re-watch his stuff, if you want something different watch this.

You couldn't be more wrong. There have been thousands of movies made that didn't use CGI and that suck. Special effects do not make a movie great.

Well, I thought the combine harvester scene has rather reminiscent of 'Braindead' 'cause what is a combine harvester if it's not nothing but a big, *beep*-off lawnmower?????

I haven't seen the film but I thought the CG of the spaceship crashing into the house looked incredibly poor. I can tell it is a film that had little to no budget but that effect was PS1 standard!

I agree with you, blownout2002.

The gore was very, very disapointing, the effects mediocre, and the story/characters uninspiring.

Undead (from Australia) was kind of an alien-gore film. Significantly better than Evil Aliens, but then again significantly worse than early Jackson. Which gives you an idea of how much worse Evil Aliens is than early Jackson.

I would compare it more with Jackson's Bad Taste then Dead/Alive.

That being said, I found it a refreshing entry to the genre, I just hope Jake West doesn't go the same route as Jackson and sellout to make big budget Hollywood flicks.

Boy Eats girl is quite a Braindead (aka Dead/Alive in the other colony) type film.

Also Gore isn't everything, a good script can make a movie far better, but overuse of CGI can suck, much better a bottle of washing liquid with red dye in it, takes about 1 second for that effect.

I just talked to Jake West for about an hour and he also regrets some of the CGI for the splatterscenes but he had a good reason. Budget! Some of the scenes weren't bloody enough but it takes three hours to set a scene up and when the effect isn't what he expected, he couldn't reshoot it so he used a little bit of CGI.

Bad TAste was a good movie. This movie is not that good at all. The blood is boring, the action is tedious, and there is no plot to speak of. Don't watch this one listening to these guys who know nothing about horror movies. This movie is not worth the money (I didn't pay for it, tho)

This movie has fake-looking blood splatters, fake looking gore, and fake looking aliens. This movie is a fake and nothing like ANYTHING Jackson has ever done, hands down

Okay but this movie is no way compaired to the awesome BAd Taste or Dead-Alive.

I hate CG gore as much as you do (hell, I probably hate it more than you do), but this had enough practical gore (more than you say for sure).

It's a fun movie.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.
