Spoiler Question about Katarin's father

I was confused about Katarin's father (the vampire). He had this showdown between Kagen's lacky. When Rayne got the heart she took it to a castle, and I think she was trying to give it to Katarin's father, so he would lead her to Kagen. (Kagen's lacky met her at the castle door.) Except Kagen was in the castle.

But I don't remember what happened to Katarin's father. Did Kagen or Kagen's lacky kill him? I'm also confused because the castle at the end was clearly Kagen's, yet why would Rayne go to Kagen's castle with the heart, and then ask to be shown where Kagen's castle was?

You can see that either they've mixed up two castles or cut out a scene, or else I've become very confused.
