Roles should have been switched

Am I wrong? Kline should have been Jacques Clouseau and Martin - Dreyfus. I loved Kline in A Fish Called Wanda and when I had heard he had an attachment to the project I thought he was going to be Clouseau. The movie was ok, but Martin would have made a great Dreyfus(winking).

I think that would definately have made for a better movie. :)

Speaking of A Fish Called Wanda, I think John Cleese (in his younger years) might have made an interesting Clouseau too.

Yeah, Kline would have been a better choice...and a script that was more clever and in touch with the originals. This movie was a horrible remake for anyone who loved the first movies.

i watched Fish Called Wanda several times since it was released. Kevin Kline was absolutely awesome, as were Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, and Michael Palin.

John Cleese is too tall to play inspector Clouseau. seeing John Cleese at the side of Jean Reno (comparable height) would take away a lot of fun. it must be someone short.

who i see as being potentially (or purely theoretically) very interesting in the role of Clouseau:
- Louis de Funes (if he had been alive)
- Robin Williams
- Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers)

i can almost picture Kline as Clouseau, but i can't picture Martin as Dreyfus...

I completely agree. When I first heard about about it, I automatically assumed Kevin Kline would be Clouseau and I was very surprised that Steve Martin got it. He's very funny, but the role was made for Kline.

I completely agree. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the trailer. I'm glad I'm not the only one who came to such a conclusion. If I could pick any living actor to play Clouseau, I would go with Kline. I love Steve Martin but he's just wrong for the part. It's like he's doing a bad parody of Clouseau, a character who was already a parody to begin with. Kline could pull it off wonderfully, just look at him in French Kiss.

there is one scene which will likely make you accept Steve Martin as Clouseau - the one with Jean Reno when they demonstrate they are backup dancers for the singer - call me narrow-minded, but i can't imagine Kevin Kline doing that scene with Jean Reno :-D

Kevin Kline made a really very long lasting, very high quality impression in Cold Fish Called Wanda :-)

Why did you think Kline would be Clouseau which Martin was obviously a comedian?

Watching the movie I thought the same thing. Kevin Kline is a great actor and if someone could have pulled it off he could.

You are 100% correct.

Funny.. I came here to say the same thing and saw this thread ALREADY here.. lol

I agree. All throughout the film, I kept seeing Steve Martin as doing his "Wild and Crazy Guy" voice, rather than the good Fake-French that Kline can do.

Kline would've been PERFECT as Clousseau but I couldn't see Martin as Dreyfuss.

You know who I can picture as Closeau & Dreyfus? How about Sellers & Lom ? But they are both dead, so lets honor them by watching their films and stop the flood of crapass remakes being dreamcast by some teenage waste of spaces.
