Was the Clive Owen role really neccasary??

I like this movie. I really do. But every time I watch it I wonder why Clive Owen was even involved in it. It just seemed as though they wanted to add in someone famous with a really cool pointless scene. Anyone else agree?

I disagree! Personally I'm a huge fan of cameos, gotta love'em! And the one with Clive Owen is extra funny with the fact that he DIDn't get to take on the James Bond franchise. I just saw "Shoot 'Em Up" the other day and there's a nod to that fact there as well (him calling the famous James Bond-gun a piece of crap)

He wanted to live out his Bond fantasy.
I would love to see him as a villian fighting Craig though...

Also the fact that he was agent 006, one shot away from BIG TIME!.LOL..loved how Steve Martin said that to him, the look on Owen's face was hilarious..hahahahahah

I found it quite funny.

Build up to the next Bond being named, nobody was looking past Clive Owen as it seemed that he was destined for the role, and there was somewhat of a outcry when he did't get it.

Maybe he was a little annoyed at it and that is why he did the cameo here just to say he has played "Bond" in a kind of way.

Think it also add's somewhat, as alternative could have been to drag Rodger Moore out and let him do it, but that would be far to silly.

It was actually kinda astounding to see an agent who is one short of the big time 007 
