Poop rocket--why not go all the way?

If Jamie was interested in the possibility of recycling human waste into rocket propellant, there was an interesting possibility they passed over. Rather than using ammonium perchlorate as the oxidizer (which is about 3x the mass of the poop fuel), why not go all the way and use nitrates extracted from urine, the way gunpowder was originally made?

and why use dog poop, when horse manure is far less disgusting (at least to me)? there's a racetrack in town (Golden Gate Fields), with an ample supply (recall in the preview show, how much 'trouble' they were said to have had, gathering 50 pounds of dog poop), probably free, in varying degrees of decomposition, from 'fresh' to having sat in a pile outside for a while (already drying), just bring a couple of garbage bags and load up, no need to raid the city's dog parks of individual little bags from responsible dog owners

also, horse manure has more 'burnable' (I would think) material in it, being composed of (having originated as) mostly plant material, whereas dog feces would be made from more meat-based diets

or why wasn't that the myth in the first place? Who cares about gummi bears
