Disappointing way to end the series!

I'm not going to give any spoilers here, but the show was cancelled at the end of a season with a big cliffhanger. Very, very disappointing!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the series. My only complaint was that characters seemed to just disappear without much explanation. Ironically, the last season was aired in Ireland in 2009, and in 2010 it won an IFTA award for Best Drama Series.
