I think I got it.....

He must have gotten a severe concussion (after the sink blows up in his face) and lands in a coma... that's how Caden lands in that weird place somewhere in between stasis and anti-stasis.... meanwhile in real life Adele and the doctors are trying to figure out if it's worth it keeping him plugged in... then they finally decide.... and they pull the plug...

Then he dies.

Now that would make a better movie than this annoyingly absurd mindfunkmovie
