So I watched anomalisa but I found it too pretentious, didnt like it at all actually it made me angry after it concluded. Synechdoche NY is one of my favorites filma ever, any Kaufman fan that thinks like me or can tell me why everyone thinks Anomalisa is good.
For the most part it was a disappointment. I thought the use of puppets was a bit too precious at times, but then again the bare bones story would have been too thin to support live action. The thematic backbone just doesn't resonate as much as the other Kaufman-directed or written films I've viewed. I must say I also didn't like Thewlis' voice performance. Something about his accent and delivery simply didn't work. It pulled me away from the character and from wanting to understand his personal issues/plight. I'm sure that others have mentioned its similarities to "Lost in Translation" (an extremely overrated film) at least in the surface plot, and it's warranted.
