Larry David as a nun = freakin' annoying!

Is Larry David playing a nun funny? Nope. And he got WAY TOO MUCH screen time.

reply

He's just kind of annoying period!

I thought she was just supposed to be the stererotypical butchy, bossy, abusive nun.

It seems like in a lot of movies, most Catholic orphanages have one.

Just because we lose today's battle doesn't mean we've lost tommorow's war.

When I saw the trailer, I thought it was Harvey Keitel. I need to see my eye doctor again.

If anything, Larry David would be the reason I'd watch this film. Well I like Will Sasso too.

They didn't hit that nun in the head enough times!

reply

They used the "donut remover" on Sister M-and-M.

reply

I loved Larry Davis's performance! Sister Mary-Mengele was reminiscent of Ma Stooge [played by Monte Collins] in Cactus Makes Perfect: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034563/ & http://threestooges.net/filmography/episode/61

He's one of the funniest things in the movie

reply

larry david was born to play a jewish nun

reply

Yes, the question kept swimming through my head--why is she a he? But I agree that it is just as the original Stooges would've had it. I can even imagine Curly rearing back in fear at the sight of her/him: "Nyuuuah!"

What was a little harder to reconcile was the whole group of nuns not aging (nor dying) despite about thirty-five years passing since the boys were dropped at the door of the orphanage. (creepy even in Hollywood-nun standards)

When the final light is extinguished, your next Source will come from darkness.

I also wondering as well how a male could pass off as a nun which was something that the film never addressed.

reply

Larry David, in case you've forgotten, is the piece of dog *beep* that urinated on Jesus, and of course the creatures that run tv and Hollywood thought that was a laugh riot, and now they have him mocking Christians again in this latest abomination.

Calm down, and SLOWLY walk away from the bible.

That was one of the funniest tv moments of all time! That episode is a true classic. I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt.

I'm pretty sure he never pissed on Jesus, considering he died around 2000 years ago (and that's assuming he existed at all).

Larry David is supposed to be a woman, not a man posing as one, nor a "male" nun, whatever that would be. Casting him was brilliant! He was the one of the funniest things about the movie for me. He plays the stereotypical stern, unattractive Catholic nun. And the fact that he didn't really try to change his voice to sound like a woman only added to his "appeal."

reply

I'm pretty sure the filmmakers purposely didn't have the nuns age as part of the joke. The original stooge shorts were certainly made on the cheap and they rarely troubled themselves with details like that.

Lol!! Come on! What's wrong with you people?! It's satire!! I think the reason so many had a hard time appreciating the humor in this movie is age. If you're not of the Three Stooges Generation I guess the humor is hard to comprehend. With this kind of comedy you have to completely open your mind, suspend disbelief, chill and just sit back and enjoy the ride. You're really not supposed to be trying to analyse anything. It's supposed to be mindless slapstick! And in my opinion, Larry David as the bitchy catholic nun?...HILARIOUS!!

lol "What's wrong with you people" is exactly what I thought when I saw this thread, so agree with you on all that, except I wouldn't say age is the thing keeping some people from liking this. Taste perhaps. What people are into differs all over, not just generationally. I mean, I'm no where near from the Three Stooges Generation, I was born in frickin' '93. haha I love the Stooges, satire, and I'm a huge Larry David fan. It's like you said, this movie is all about the slapstick and satire. Sometimes those things aren't people's cup of tea. Even older people could not like those things. Some people prefer only watching stuff they gotta think about, stuff that means more than it shows even when it's a comedy, and all that jazz. If they're not into that stuff either, then it means the Stooges then and now, simply doesn't do it for them. So sometimes it's not even a matter of the humor being lost on them, whatever their age, but of them just not liking it. I'm sure not everyone in the 50s loved the Stooges, there's always a handful of people whinging about how stupid something is, probably even thought it wouldn't last. As far as LD, well it's just a matter of being a Larry David fan. From what I read above, seems most of the people that didn't like David in this movie, just don't like him at all. All just a matter of personal taste. :)

Back to the other stuff, yeah Larry David as the Nun killed me! LOL That was a brilliant call. I instantly thought of every episode of Curb that had to do with Christianity. Him as a Catholic Nun was just the nail in the mezzuzah.

reply

It fits in with the Stogoes type of comedy. Besides back in 1950, they played all the roles in "Self-Made Maids".Honeybear made the best point..(though I forgot about his/her example with Monty Collins, onme of regulrs of the Stooges. ) Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk. The htting double standard of men versus women is also a justifiable reason to drag up a guy--after all, HE has to take thew BEATINGS from the guys.

reply

Yeah, Larry David was probably playing a nun because if it's a man playing, it's more funny to general audiences when it involves a little violence.

Larry David also purposely acted annoying in this film to really make you glad when the stooges pick on that nun.

reply

R u serious? I literally loled for 2 minutes when I saw him doing the bad nun. Its the best character of the movie by far.

reply

Attila the Nun = lol awesome :)

I have one question maybe you can answer once and for all please:

WHY was Larry Davis in a move (this one) in the first place?
