going clubbing in uniform?

that doesn't seem proper or respectful to what their uniform represents. seems like something a NONserviceman would do to get chicks.

reply

Agreed. I'm almost positive that it's an enforced rule to NOT do this. I have a friend in the military and we asked him to go out for a few drinks after some PT and I remember him saying he HAD to change out of his BDUs.

reply

As a Marine, I can tell you that it is an enforced regulation to not go out in cammies, HOWEVER, he could very well go out anywhere in a dress uniform or service uniform which is what the characters in the film did. I am pretty sure that in the Army and possibly the other branches that they can go out in their cammies whenever we want. We don't do that, though, because we want to look our best in the public eye. I hope that helps clear things up.

Been a long time since I've been in, but in the USAF, we weren't supposed to even shop for groceries (off base) in our BDUs. (Quick stop for fast food was ok.) So, I would say it's all services; US, at least.

I think they can have uniform on saya club thats ON a military base.

reply

I'm sorry, but the USA navy uniform just looks too gay!

I did nine and a half years in the Navy and like it or not, service members go clubbing and drinking in uniform all the time. Take Fleet Week for example: U.S. Navy ships pull in to NYC, San Fran, etc. and are only allowed to leave the ship in dress uniform. Who knows what the reasoning behind it in "Stealth" was, but it actually is somewhat accurate; I say somewhat because I don't know exactly where the characters were in the clubbing scene. Going on liberty out in town overseas, in uniform, is usually not allowed. Hope that helps.

I'm a Marine and it is perfectly fine to go out in your dress uniform. I for one don't like the attention and don't do it. After the Marine Corps birthday ball, however, we leave the ball and walk down to a bar in our dress blues as a group to have a little bit more fun. There's nothing wrong going out in a DRESS uniform. We don't go anywhere in our camouflage except work.

You aren't supposed to go into any establishment that mainly serves alcohol. I'm in the Air Force and with the current state of the world you would want to blend to the populace.

reply

It's not against our regulations. It may be yours. Another example is the army has to keep the sleeves of their cammies rolled down in war time anywhere they are. However, in the Marine Corps, we still go sleeves up in the summer but only when we're stateside and not in the field.

No offense, but in general Americans overseas are about as easy to spot as an elephant in a china shop. And between haircut/body build, conversation topics and the fact that they'd probably already know if an American ship/unit/squadron was in town, it's probably not too difficult to figure out if you're military... taking the uniform off just prevents overkill.

I'm the Army and stationed in Korea, and 2ID regulation says we are not allowed to go to clubs in our uniform. Unless they're MPs or CPP currently on duty. They patrol the clubs to make sure no one is participating in black marketing, human trafficking, or prostitution.

This is my signature, It's freakin' brilliant isn't it?

reply

Agree. Im an SrA (USAF) stationed at Davis-Monthan. It clearly states in AFI 36-2903 that we are not to frequent an establishment that mainly serves alcohol.

Basically, no dress Blues or BDU/ABU's at a club or bar.

LOL, Stealth and Top Gun are pretty cavalier in their dress and appearance. I know I wouldn't get 5 feet from my car if I wore a polo shirt under my flight suit.

None better than THE Ohio State University!

reply

BDUs, never, but dress whites for sure. That said, you are expected to represent yourself properly.

Hey army, navy, air force dudes.
Sorry for the silly question but for those that do not know what does BDU mean?

reply

BDU means Battle Dress Uniform.
As for other uniform related issues. When I was in technical school, we wearen't allowed to leave the barracks unless we were in working or dress uniform, no matter where we went. I have also done various PR things like parades, and escort for a beauty pageant in a dress uniform. After those events it is a good thing to hit a bar in uniform for free drinks and yes women are a lot less guarded when approached by a service man in uniform. But the only rule is not to bring discredit to that uniform in public.

reply

Hey thanks heaps for the explanation

We had a South Korean ship docked here a few years back all the sailors were out in uniform and had the girls crawling over them lol.
