The movie just doesn't take you anywhere at all. Paris is a city with so many amazing sights, pity the movie is stuck in a tight kitchen the whole time. It gives off the impression it needs major fleshing out, like it's an animation prototype or something. There's just nothing to it. The only character that caught my eye was the food critic, the rest are too realistic. I can't think of a single time I was close to laughing. A pleasant movie to watch, but after seeing what Pixar can do, I was disappointed. It just seems like a film can do well simply because it's made by someone who's produced masterpieces, not because of its actual experience.

The movie wasn't supposed to be funny. If anything, I'd call it more of a drama (albeit a light-hearted one) than comedy. If you watch it with that in mind, it turns out to be a quite enjoyable film.

Remy's nose looked like a Jelly tot. i wanted to eat it..but the movie was great!

I wish they taught shopping in school; lets wear make up so the boys will like us

Seriously...did we watch the same movie? this is one of the most imaginative, visually stunning animated films I've ever seen....not only is the animation top notch; the story was imaginative, the characters well developed and it had a great message...believe in yourself and you can achieve anything..no matter who or in this case, what you are!

Yip i agree it was a fantastic movie in just about every possible way!

Love the morality lessons at play - I.e. Dont steal and always be honest and good things will come your way.

For playing to children AND adults its a good lesson for life.

The entire entire point is that you're experiencing Paris specifically from Remy's point of view.

I'm sorry you felt disappointed by this film, but every time I watch it, it really makes me feel the sheer joy of one of the best aspects of life (food, of course). I don't care about not being in stitches throughout the movie and Paris is still every bit as beautiful to me from a rat's-eye view as it is from the Eiffel Tower.

I'm not really fond of any of Brad Bird's Pixar movies. The Incredibles was the 1st Pixar movie of the decade that did not make me want to express my interest to everyone I knew. At least John Lassetter's least critically acclaimed Pixar movies have endearing characters.

i also did not care too much for the film. i came very close to losing interest. i didn't care much for the incredibles, either. maybe i just don't care for bird.

Love this movie, not boring or overrated. Granted it was not real funny but it was a cute movie.

Funny considering that Bird's pixar output is largely considered to be the pinnacle of Pixar.

Whoa, what? Brad Bird is the BEST of the pixar directors. Incredibles was the first movie of theirs that made me scream out how fantastic it was. I didn't think anything could've been better than that, but then Ratatouille came out and, wow, i was shocked that I couldn't decide which one I liked better. A testament to Brad Birds directorial prowress. Oh, and lets not forget his non-disney film Iron Giant. Did you hate that too?

As an actual, Professional Working Executive Chef, I found this film to be beautiful, sad, amusing, artful and AMAZINGLY (!) more truthful to the way a real, serious kitchen operates than almost ANY live action film I have seen.
Also, LOVELY score.

I thought I was the only one! Nice to see a lot of other people also think this movie is really overrated. I thought it was average at best.

I wasn't very excited while watching Ratatouille either. It did get boring in some parts and I did lose interest often. This movie lacked passion and inspiration. It wasn't funny, only mildly amusing. I didn't hate it though.

I think the movie critics were a little too generous overall.

This is not one of those Disney/Pixar movies where a kid goes "I want to see it again!" for the 15th time in a row. It WAS a movie where plenty of adults _without_ children sat in the theater.

For a G rating, it failed on that level. Maybe it should have been rated G-A (General Audiences, but Adult orientated). As an adult, there's no need for me to see this movie again. Once was enough.

The movie was overflowing with passion. You just made the mistake of assuming that since it was a cartoon, it was somehow a comedy. You're judging the movie for the labels that were put on it, not the movie itself. Seriously, who actually judges a movie's quality relative to its rating?

Looking at the IMDB-score I would definitely say it is overrated. It's an enjoyable film, but it is nowhere near the level of "masterpiece" that the score suggests. It is not even the best animated movie. Not by far even.
