Without having seen the movie, I just had someone explain to me the plot having just seen it, and it was eerily familiar.

The song "Everything's Turning to White" by great Aussie songwriter Paul Kelly outlines the same story.

The song by Paul Kelly is based on the short story "So Much Water So Close To Home." The movie is also based on this story...so it's not actually a spooky coincidence, sorry!
