Two hours of my life I will never get back

What utter sh**e

They should change the title to 'Nothing Happens'

I just watched it on Sky there as well, and I can't make up my mind. I don't think it was a bad film, really, but then again nothing really happens.

either you are very young or quite shallow...or even callous to say nothing happens in this movie. a young girl is killed/a group of men decide sticking to their fishing schedule is more important than informing the police or her family of her murder...instead they wait 2/3days before doing so. wives & girlfriends react differently to the men's actions & most are more affected by the tragedy than the men themselves...& that's the crux how can they have just carried on fishing?? was it heartlessness?/selfishness? or something even darker - racism or misgony?? & you say nothing happens? to all those saying what's the big deal? what if it would have been your sister/daughter/girlfriend whose dead body was left to float in the river and ankles cut to the bone & tied with string? whose death was considered a mere hindrance to a fishing trip?

no I am neither - I just don't like *beep* films

I have to agree. I kept watching, waiting for something, anything to happen.
The only character i cared about at all was the little kid learning to swim.
The rest of them were just a bunch of sucky jerks.just sucked.

It may have made an interesting short story, if the writing was good enough, as an exercise in dialog and place, but as a film it was a snore.

As to the other poster's points:

Woman is killed -- ok, that happens about 2 minutes in, and is the last interesting thing that happens.

Fishermen don't report the body -- I have to agree on this with some of the people who ask about the big deal. You're not obliged to do so, but if I was in their shoes I'd have reported it anonymously and come to talk to the cops after my fishing trip. That way you win both ways. That said, she isn't going anywhere.

The racial thing is hard to stomach. The dead girl looked like a cute latino, not an aborigine, so as far as the movie goes that's hard to bite off.
Also, I HATE the fact that Laura Linney showed up at the funeral along with her husband and his pals. "We're here to pay our Respects" -- BS! They were there to assuage their own guilt. It wasn't/isn't about the girl in this respect, rather a selfish, narcissistic action to make THEM feel better. Same with the charity box.

The family did not want them there. Their arrival interrupted and soured their grieving process, but that does not provide a suitable climax for a dull story.

Nothing happens, and ultimately I didn't believe the story they were trying to pull. I didn't believe that they would've kept fishing, and I didn't believe the reaction from the tiny community, neither from the police nor the family of the victim and his own family, especially not his wife. Also, the weird little suicidal girl had no point at all, no contribution to the story. As a matter of fact, neither did most of the characters.
The only interesting character was the murderer, and there was nothing about his motivations or background, and nothing about the actual murder, or what the hell he was doing besides killing people and going to their funerals or whatever.
When the credits rolled, I thought to myself; "yeah, that was a pretty crappy movie"

I unfortunately agree with majority here. Although I have liked the two leads in their previous work nothing that they captured on film could save this movie. I just waited until the very end with the bee for something to happen and it never did. Also the premise in unrealistic. Maybe if it had been some college kids or teens partying in the woods, they would wait to report the body.

The movie left me disappointed and wanting to watch something good to end the night with.

I beleive this movie is utter CRAP! And Laura Linney's character has got to be the most offensive and dispicable woman I've ever seen. She berates Gabriel Byrne for his weaknesses throughout the whole film, trying to drag out and dissect all his problems yet when he turns the tables on her by bringing up the fact that she abandoned her kid at birth she refuses to discuss it. She smashes vases, she hits her husband, throws food at him and pitches a tantrum every other minute.
Man! In my opinion the killer should've nailed her and the first guy on this thread is right! Here are two hours of my life that this awful movie swallowed whole!
