The town where the movie was filmed

The town of Jindabyne looks quaint and somewhat rural. I was wondering if it really snows there...since Australia was always known for its arid climate. Especially, the outback.

Jindabyne is slightly too low for snow to really fall. Apparently it does from time to time, but barely enough to settle on the ground. I've been to Jindabyne no less than 10 times, equating to months all up, during the snowy season, and i've never seen it snow. It regularly snows quite close by, say a 15 min drive in a couple of directions, but only when you're at a higher altitude.

Jindabyne is the hub for the New South Wales snow season (usually July through to late September). It is the town where most people stay when hitting the snow at Mt. Kosciusko and other nearby mountains, which are mostly a 30 min drive from Jindabyne.

As far as the "outback" goes, it is a loose term. By some definitions, Jindabyne is part of the outback (as in, rural). By others, it's nothing like the outback (such as depicted in films like Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, Walkabout, etc.). It is about 2 hours drive from the nearest major city (Canberra), and is not an area I (as an Australian) would class as arid.
