A good Gothic horror film

I don't understand why people don't like this film. I think it's decently scripted, well acted and has some genuinely chilling moments. Perhaps it's something to do with the melancholy feel of the film, and the bleakness of the ending? To me, those are strengths rather than weaknesses. I like it a lot.
