Same exact script as The Other Boleyn Girl... o.0

There are quite a few scenes in Henry VIII that have identical scenes- script and all- as in The Other Boleyn Girl...anyone else notice this??

This came first though. It is possible that they are both based a bit on the book.

YES, I was just about to post the same thing. The part with Catherine addressing Anne prior to the trial was word-for-word identical to Catherine's speech to Mary and Anne in The Other Boleyn Girl, and Anne's speech about the love she feels for her brother was almost identical in both films too. The book does not contain anything like these speeches.

Why is this not a bigger issue, I wonder...

Peter Morgan was the scriptwriter for both. It seems he reused material from Henry VIII for TOBG. Unfortunately it was not great material to begin with...

That would explain it. Also the rape scene not in TOBG book apparently originated in this movie.
But I actually liked Katherine's speech, so I didn't mind hearing it again.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that, I'll be over here, looking through your stuff

rape scene?

It also lifts script from the great 1969 film Anne of the Thousand Days, starring Richard Burton, Anthony Quayle and Genevieve Bujold.

reply

Yeah I watched this last night but as soon as I realized its similarity to TOBG, I lost interest.
