Should the story of Henry and his wives be made into a Hollywood Movie?

What do you think? And who would play who? I would love to see it as an Epic Hollywood Movie.

Maybe Keira Knightley as Katherine Howard? Although maybe Emily Blunt could reprise her role, I thought she was brilliant.
Don't know about any other roles though. I thought the casting for the 2003 TV Series was perfect.

Here's who I would have playing who:
Henry VIII: Jared Harris
Katherine of Aragon:Celia Imrie
Anne Boleyn: Rachel Weisz(don't know why, I think she'd be great), Keira Knightley or Jenna Dewan
Jane Seymour: Sophia Myles
Anne of Cleves:Sylvesta Le Touzel
Kathernie Howard:Emily Blunt
Katherine Parr: Julie Walters
Princess Mary:Felicity Jones
Princess Elizabeth:Rachel Hurd Wood
Prince Edward: Charlie Jones
Thomas More:Ciaran Hinds
Cardinal Wolsey:David Suchet
Thomas Cromwell:Robert Vaughn
Thomas Cranmer:Warren Clarke

What do you think?

Penelope Wilton???

She is 60. Anne was 25. I think Alexandra Maria Lara is the perfekt Anne of Cleves

There was a miniseries from the 70's I think that was called "The six wives of Henry The VIII."
I think it was a BBC production.

Here's my Cast list:

Sean Bean as King Henry VIII
Joanne Whalley as Katherine of Aragon
Keira Knightley as Anne Boleyn
Alexandra Maria Lara as Jane Seymour
Catherine Siggins as Anne of Cleves

However I absolutely agree with lucy_drysdale's cast of the other two wives:

Emily Blunt as Kathernie Howard
Julie Walters as Katherine Parr

Here's the rest of my cast:

Michael Gambon as Sir Thomas More
Bill Nighy as Thomas Cromwell
Alfred Molina as Cardinal Thomas Wolsey
Scott Handy as Archbishop Thomas Cranmer

Some good choices although JULIE WALTERS as Catherine Parr? She's a great comedienne but I don't know if she could pull that one off ...

yep Keira Knightley is definately too soft for Anne Boleyn. I agree with Rachel Weisz playin her. She has the dark looks and charisma.

reply

I'm sorry, but JULIE WALTERS as Katherine Parr?? Parr was in her thirties when she died and Walters is nearly 60! Katherine Parr wasn't some frumpy old lady (no offense to Julie Walters), but a beautiful woman around 30 when Henry met her.

reply

I'd keep Emilia Fox as Jane Seymore. Sophia Myles or Kate Winslet for Catherine Howard. Or Emily Blunt (tell me I'm not the only one who thought she looked like Kate Winslet).

I think they should get a Spanish actress for Katherine of Aragon and a German one for Anne of Cleeves. (Franka Potente would be a really interesting choice!)

It'd never be a Hollywood movie though. They'd have to cut wayyy to much out to make a 2 1/2 hour movie.

reply

Ray Winstone was really brilliant as Henry VIII - should keep him.

As for the actresses, they all sound good but you guys better make sure they don't cast any Americans in it. There's more than enough good Brit actresses to fill the roles. I know as a neutral party, I can never see Anne Hathaway or Kate Hudson as one of the wives!

reply

Unfortunately, i think if it was made into a hollywood movie, they would butcher the story and the characters into two dimensional stereotypes. As 'The Tudors' has shown, maybe england should keep to making the films about the tudors lol

reply

Even the Tudors has butchered a lot of the story and the characters. Though I still enjoy the show a lot more then anything Hollywood can make.

reply

I agree. Even though the Tudors omits a lot or changes important details, I still think it's a fine production. I just finished watching the BBC miniseries made in the 70s and it clearly shows that you cannot fit the whole saga into six or so episodes. You have to have a longer, drawn-out storyline, like the Tudors on Showtime does, to be able to portray the full story. A feature film wouldn't do it justice!

My Cast List:

Henry VIII: David Thewlis
Katherine of Aragon: Emma Thompson (exceptional at accents and Katherine of Aragon had red hair).
Anne Bolyen: Hayley Attwell
Jane Seymour: Rose Byrne
Anne of Cleves: Gemma Arterton (don't get me wrong, she's a beautiful girl, but she's quite broadly built, and I think this would work well. Also AoC wasn't really suppsoed to be ugly).
Katherine Howard: Emily Blunt
Catherine Parr: Anna Friel (would be nice to have her and Thewlis together for his last companion)

Oh, Lady Margaret ~ you are naive

reply

It should not. It should be made by an English film company, with an English cast. Americans should only be allowed in if they can do convincing English accents.

My Cast:

King Henry VIII: Kenneth Branagh/Ewan McGregor
Catherine of Aragon: Emma Thompson/Susan Sarandon/Miranda Richardson
Anne Boleyn: Eva Green/Catherine Zeta-Jones/Rachel Weisz
Jane Seymour: Gwyneth Paltrow
Anne of Cleves: Cate Blanchett
Catherine Howard: ?
Catherine Parr: Naomi Watts

reply

Talulah Riley would be a good Catherine Howard. Cate Blanchett is to tall and slender to be Anne of Cleves.

Hollywood seems incapable of making any movie historically accurate. I don't understand why, because the Tudor period in history is about as interesting and exciting as it can get. Needs no embellishment. I watch everything Tudor related and IMO Anne of The Thousand days is the best I've seen.
