No I didn't see it either, but it looks really good. I found the official website for it, but it doesn't give much about the movie. http://www.thefallenmovie.com/

Does ANYONE know anything about this movie? the official website seems to be down...HELP!!

The movie is set at the end of 1944 in North Italy. There are the Italians, Germans and Americans. Everybody speaks in their own language. The italians join a german group in the resistance of the american troups. I'm interested in the movie because I studied so much about this time in school. I was born and raised in Germany so at least I understand the Germans and the Americans :-). This movie has been out a while. The orig. name of this movie was " Letters from the Dead". You can find diff. sites on the internet about it. I have been looking for this movie for a long time. I'd like to see it and maybe we can find out how to get it on video. What do you think? Hope to hear from you ....

Okay Guys---after 9 years in the making finally this film "The Fallen" is now available at:

Blockbuster Online
Netflicks
Amazon.com
Overstock
Best Buy
Barnes and Nobles....

Go get it if you are still interested. It took a long time to find the right distributor. It finally played theatrically in NY and LA over the last month. It should be out in Hollywood Video soon as well...

Best of luck

Just got to see it today (from Netflix), and it really blows.

Sorry, but it really is amateurish, poorly edited and terribly slow.

A similiar, very low budget film in this vein is "84 Charlie MoPic". Different war, but extremely well done.

reply

Dear Eviltimes-

glad you finally watched this film. Too bad you thought it was slow and amateurish. I wonder if you thought The Thin Red Line was slow too? Also were you expecting it to be a fast paced action packed Hollywood film like U-571?

I liked 84CharlieMopic very much, I had it in mind when we made this film, but they are very different films, in the end. 84 is a very, very limited POV(everything is seen through the POV of a 16mm newsreel camera...a Frezzolini, to be specific!) and only five guys, and The Fallen is a rather vast and ambitous thing with hundreds of charachters and locations.

I'm sorry if you did not enjoy The Fallen as much as 84Charlie Mopic, but I do sugggest that for some people, it IS the kind of film that grows on you with further viewing, so maybe give it another shot before you send it back to Netflix, you have nothing to lose. Hey, that has happened with some of my favorite albums, they did not strike me right the first time I heard them!

Anyway, thanks for renting and watching it, and I respect your opinion, this film is not for everyone, it has a "European" kind of thing to it much more than a "Hollywood" kind of thing. Not saying one is superior to the other, just saying they are different.

Came across this title after looking up an old Italian satire "War Ialian Style," which was a swan song of sorts for Buster Keaton. As you appear to be associated with this film, Mr. Mattikow, I'll reserve judgment until I see it. I'm sure the human drama, as described in the long write up on the IMDb site, will prove to be worthwhile.

I have to bring up the comparison with "84 Charlie Mopic," however. I saw that one on PBS back in the mid-90s, and was rather caught up with the hand-held camera cinematography, the spontaneous drama of the seeming "interviews," and other apsects of the film. Impressed the snot out of me. I made the mistake of viewing it just a few years ago with a former Special Forces major with whom I have had the honor to do some tactical training. I'm not military, but he served in Vietnam. Long story. I'll save it for some other time.

I'm afraid that even with my limited training with this gentleman I was catching serious, serious errors on the part of the supposedly seasoned Long Range Recon Patrol (LRRP or Lurps in the parlance)troops. I won't even go into how my friend raked it over the coals. There is much about the film that still appeals to me, and the frenetic "you are there" style is still exciting to me. The opening sequence of "Saving Private Ryan" and the climactic street fighting in "Children of Men" seem to have grown out of that style and experience. Anyway, I guess one has to suspend disbelief sometimes for the sake of a good ripping yarn, but it pays to be aware of the details when making a film like that.

Anyway, I'll study the listings here some more. "The Fallen" sounds interesting, and it sounds like availability is opening up.

Don't bother. I just saw it and it was horrible. I got my copy on Amazon. really insults the intelligence of anyone looking for a historically accurate, well-acted, well-produced film. In fact, when you see the "making of" extra, you can see what a train wreck this was just from the comments from the cast and crew.

I picked it up in Fopp the other day for £3...score.
