Feather Boy: The Musical
This may surprise some of you but this has been made into a musical. It will be part of the Shell Connections competition which is a competition that celebrates young people who are interested in the theatre and every year plays and musicals are written specifically to premiere at the winners festival at the National Theatre in London. Being involved in this competition I have read the script and listened to five of the songs (all together there are about 20 musical numbers in the script) this is what they're about:
OLD PEOPLE: On the way to the Mayfield Rest Home, Niker and his classmates moan about Old People and all their annoying foibles.
IT'S STILL ME IN HERE: At the Mayfield Rest home the old people join together in an emotional ballad telling people that they should never judge a book by it's cover, and although they are old they are young at heart.
BOLD AND FEARLESS DOT COM: Home alone whilst his mother is working the late shift, Robert starts talking to his computer and thinks about how great it would be if he could become "bold and fearless" just by clicking onto a website. This number culminates with in the style of a big show number with all the people who bully Robert fawning over him and Kate swooning into his arms.
YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE: In Act Two, as Edith's health steadily deteriorates, Robert takes her outside to look at a beautiful starlit night and he tells her that he will do anythng to make her better because he is not going to let her leave him.
FEATHERS: After beating up Niker, Robert is rushing to finish the coat of feathers for Mrs. Sorrel. Kate offers to help and during the song she phones everyone she knows and gets them to find as many feathers as they can.
May I take your coats, your hats and your swastika's?
