Questions (SPOILERS)

Ok, being that Vinicio's wife destroyed the evidence she found in the truck, it's safe to assume that she then knew that he was the child killer. So WHY would she want to stay with a man who ran a very high likelyhood of raping and murdering her own children? I don't care how poor or in need of a husband she was- It's just not believable that she'd have any intentions of staying with someone she suspected was a child murderer. I lost all sympathy for her character at that point. Beyond that, one would think that she'd have been bright enough to figure out something before that. They'd only been married for a year and a half but certainly she knew where her husband had been traveling to and it should have dawned on her that each and every place he'd been to there just so happened to turn up dead children. The fact that she truly didn't know him all that well when they married should have been more reason for her to suspect. Are we to believe the woman was truly that stupid?

Question 2- Why was John Leguizamo the only one who ever spoke in English? I've read other posts that mention that it's very realistic for people from Miami to mix languages and that I agree with. I lived in Miami several years ago and am also of Puerto Rican descent, so I know very well that we do tend to talk "Spanglish" at times. I'm just curious as to why John was the only one of the three journalists who ever spoke in English? I would think the director would have noticed this and thrown a couple of english lines in for the other two so that it wouldn't come off as if John merely needed to brush up on his spanish.

I've not made a firm decision as to whether or not I think this is a good film as it was late last night when I watched it. I will give it a second viewing tonight. So far, the only word to describe this film for me is disturbing.

An attempt to respond to question #2

I really cant say much of the girl, but i'll take a guess at the cameraman. The slang he uses and his accent are those of somebody raised entirely in Mexico, he is by no means Chicano. Im wanting to assume that he hasnt lived much time in Miami and rarely uses english as occurs with individuals that live in a highly densed spanish speaking region such as Miami. Spanish is his natural language, and he doesnt actually need english to perform his job. Im guessing also that they dont stay that much in Miami: that they pretty much travel around Latin America all the time so a sufficient adquisition of english to conduce to a language shift in his character would be improbable. I believe John's character uses spanish more as a work tool and english as his natural language. ( as somebody else stated in another post, he uses english when he wants to expres deep emotion.)

I think she's in denial - here she found this wonderful man who loves her son, and she's pregnant, and she doesn't want to believe that what she thought was a good thing is about to be lost. Also, not too long before the part where she gets rid of the evidence, she's watching some news on TV where they're talking about another missing child. At this point her husband is still in jail, so she knows he can't be responsible, so maybe he's innocent after all. She's able to reinforce her own desire to believe the best of him. (And doesn't this happen all too often in real life!)
