Who else hated the ending of this movie? (spoilers)

I cannot believe they ended up not saying anything about that guy just to save Monolo's reputation. I felt like this movie was completely pointless to watch because of that. And at the very end, was that guy murdering the little boy? The ending sucked!!!!

I hated the ending, too and wish they'd gone with the alternate version.

The ending was horrible. I thought the movie was pretty good up until then, but they completely did not finish the film.

Hey I've been in a firefight before, well I was in a fire...actually I was fired.

reply

The film is unresolved which is the point. I loved it and not in a sick way. This crap happens in the world. Sorry you guys didn't like it, maybe you should have watched The Karate Kid instead.

Point Larusso!

Aww the crack baby jesus can not take someone else's opinion. No s h i t this stuff happens in real life, but they could have at least gave us some sort of an ending. What happened in the film was not an ending, it was more like an intermission. The movie showed these reporters as some what compassionate people who wanted to catch the monster...but instead of telling the police or even their producer, they just left and said screw it. Yup...fantastic ending that seemed in their character.

"they just left and said screw it."

Had to pee, didn`t you? The movie ends very well - disturbingly well! And it`s not even the scene where you don`t know what`s going on in the abandoned house, it`s the fact that Manolo puts his personal fame over the arrest and conviction of a murderer. During the ride to the airport Manolo is on the phone with someone from the station and, after hanging up the mobile, he tells them that he`ll get his own show and he wants them to stay a team.

Money makes the world go round - I am reaching out to a higher ground. Who said that? Doesn`t matter - in this case it`s just the truth - the horrible truth.

We didn't like the end- That doesn't mean we didn't "get" the movie or that we spend our nights watching replays of The Karate Kid. All it means is that we preferred the original ending.

Honestly I don't understand why you're being so childish about this. We all saw the movie, and no, we don't all agree as to how we felt about the ending. yes, I do realize that the point of the film was the unresolved ending, because yes that's what happens in the world, but just because we didn't particularly like it, doesn't mean we didn't understand it. Either way it doesn't mean that you need to resort to chldish behavior, as well as insulting our intelligence by telling us to go watch what I would deem "easy" movies. They're simple, they tell a story, it ends happily, the end. I understand the concept and that doesn't mean I like it. I like this movie, I like its elements and I like the plot itself, but to be honest, I like the alternate ending better. That's all. We don't need to have our intelligence insulted because we don't agree with you.

I loved the ending. Not that I didn't want to see justice meted out in some fashion, but it's the only one that made sense given everything that had happened. I think it was appropriate. (I hated the alternate ending on the DVD and am glad the director chose the one he did.)

The ending also reminded me a little bit of one of my favorite flicks, Sidney Lumet's Q&A - another movie with a great but unsetting ending.

Anyway, we get films everyday that have 'satisfying' endings. It's a nice change when you see something with a different ending than what you would perhaps expect or desire.

Excellent but distrubing flick. (It's a little too real at times.)

reply

Oh my God, you people are boring. Do you feel like "God, I wish I had a sense of humor?"

"Condoms come in all different flavours nowadays. Do you like curry?"

The ending was the only interesting moment in that "slow-boring" movie! I loved it as it shows us that the reporters cared only about fame and glory after all.....and the bad guy? Despite all the pain he caused, despite the fact that he loved Chico....he raped the boy and killed it....I would never understand a perverted person like that-but at least we learn that sometimes (ot maybe most of the times?) things are far different of what we see...Never judge a book by its cover-and that was the whole point of that movie!

reply

Probably pointless to respond to a thread this old. But I just saw the movie, sorry. Anyway, those who are suggesting this was a "non-ending" or that anything was left unresolved...I don't think so. And I think it goes beyond the "thinking man's" resolution about corrupt journalism. If you're just here for cheap thrills, this ending still gave it to you in spades. Think about it -- it's not just the irony of these guys being called heroes when we know they're anything but. It's not just this killer escaping justice. It's not even that he's killing yet another child. It's that this guy is still on the loose -- he's still in business -- and who knows how many more children are going to die as a result? How chilling is that? Whether these journalists get the justice they deserve (e.g., the alternate ending) should be the least of your concerns.

reply

What happened in the alternate ending???

reply

Manolo is lynched by an angry mob, after they find out he was responsible for setting the monster free with the show.

reply

Thanks!
Interesting ending, the first lynching was hard enough to stomach, dont know if a 2nd might cheapen it..I think the currwent one probbaly fits it perfectly though

reply

I agree that this was the appropriate ending, it just was so unrewarding. But in real life justice does not always prevail and people do not grow a conscience within 90 minutes.

The muffled voice at the end in woods makes your skin crawl. But then again, the movie does this throughout, from the riot at the beginning when the reporters do not offer assistance but rather try to get the best shots; to Vinicio's gleeful chronicle of the "real Monster's" murders. Not to mention the niggling at the back of your mind that Vinicio's wife knew that her husband was the "Monster." Disturbing portrayal of humankind at many societal levels, yet a damn good movie!

You know that sound Goofy makes when he falls? That's my quote.

reply

This is a movie based in real facts, like real life not always has a hollywood happy ending or gratifying explanation. Pointless? maybe for people without exposure to the real and decadent world.

reply

That's like saying Silence of the Lambs was pointless because Hannibal Lecter got away. If you're only down with happy endings, I agree with the crack baby- Karate Kid is a great flick.

reply

No. He was playing Twister with his stepson, and then Chutes and Ladders.

reply

The reason they didnt say anything is not to save Manolo's reputation, its because they know about it all along, and never said anything to the police therefore they can be sent to jail, and the judicial system in a third world country like that is not like one in the US, they would have been screwed.

reply

I thought the ending made the film so great! I mean, it really has been a looooong time since I left a film feeling EMOTIONALLY wrecked...hell, you can turn on the news every day and hear about another mother beating her infant to death, or see another Amber alert, or find out yet another child was molested in foster care, its sad. My point is: its EASY to get upset by the news because its REAL...but MOVIES...well, theyre supposed to take us to that "happy" place. The place where yeah, there's someone out there raping and killing kids, but the "good guy" will catch him and in the end he gets what he's got coming...its different from reality. Cronicas didnt DO that. They chose to ditch the Hollywood happy ending convention...and I thought it was an awesome move. The ending was disturbing, sad, and horrible all together, but I cant imagine it being more...right.
Do ya know what I mean?
