So was that child at the end..........(spoiler s)

Was that child he was hurting his stepson? I watched near the end twice trying to and figure it out and it seems to me it was his stepson.

Clue 1. The news crew said they would go pick up her son but THE MONSTER beat them to it.

Clue 2. He leads the boy down the path to the run down house and tells him he can never show anyone the way they went.

Clue 3. while on the path he starts drinking and he told the reporter that he never drinks but the monster always drinks when he is about to hurt a child.

Clue 4. While hugging his stepson on the path something in his mannerism changes to those sick looks he was giving the reporter while telling him about the monster.

Clue 5.We never see the boy return to his mom.

I also think that because the wife of the monster was willing to hide that fact makes it more like karma that the next victem would be her own son as horrible as that is. What do you all think or does anyone know?
