Question About Ending

I don’t understand why the reporters didn’t inform the police about who the killer was. One said they’d be arrested as accomplices but that doesn’t make much sense to me. Can anyone shed some light on this?

reply

I think it was because all the evidence they gathered was behind the police's backs. Also they didn't want to show the world that the man that they just helped free and make look like an innocent mistreated father and husband, was actually a serial killer and that Monolo and his team knew it, but were trying to break the case themselves by getting a confession instead of just telling the police what they knew from the beginning..

on top of which they left knowing they were direct accomplices to the death of the last child (they had the incriminating evidence about the killer's travels (making the case for his guilt), strictly to cya when it might have saved the kid's life)
which was the coup de grace

Maybe I'm being overly cynical, but I wonder if Manolo still intends to tell anyone about Vinicio after going back to Miami, now that he knows he might be getting his own show. It seems that seeing his potential show canceled would be one of the consequences of revealing that he helped the Monster to go free.

Also, I think another reason why the walked away was that if they divulged the information they would have been in a world of sh#t with the locals. They seen first hand the vigilante activity near the beginning, and that was over a guy accidently hitting a kid. Imagine what the populace would think/do when they found out that this murderer of children, their children, was let go scot free?
