based on an awesome Belgian graphic novel (french language)

Hermann is the artist of several violent European adventure comic books since the late 1960s, peaking with series like Bernard Prince and the epic Comanche (the end of the wild west era) in the seventies, and Jeremiah in the eighties.

The Blood Wedding is Hermann's teaming up with writer Jean van Hamme, who was told a real story about a restaurant owner who locked up a bride in the toilet, because the father of the groom didn't like the first course (shrimps with tomato) and wanted to leave without paying the bills. 'The bill or the bride!' the owner told him. The bride's father-in-law gave in and the wedding party became a success after all.

'What,' Van Hamme said to artist Hermann, 'if the father-in-law would have gone the other way?' He believed that Hermann was the only artist who could get away realistically with the violently tragicomical comic book script. And a masterpiece it is! It breathes the latin atmosphere of the french country culture.

This good movie, by Belgian director Deruddere but made in the German language, is based on the 2000 graphic novel (which was in french, with everyone having french names). Like the graphic novel, this movie is also worth watching. But I can recommend the book by Hermann and Jean Van Hamme for everyone who loves a good adult story in drawings!
