Should Angelle's have won the hair show?

Okay first off I really enjoyed this movie for what it was, but am I the only one who felt Angelle's had the weakest theme in the final round of the hair show? The actual hair on the lion model was just a big poofy blonde weave that looked like it took no effort at all, and there was nothing impressive about it at all, especially in comparison to the Golden Gate Bridge hair do, and some of the other themes. Yeah their lions costume was fierce and the model worked it, but it was a hair show and there was nothing about the hair-do that made it worthy of beating out any of the other 5. I just had to post about this cause it bugs me everytime I watch this movie, am I alone on this?

I don't think that she should have won.
I was amazed at the Golden Gate Bridge hair do. I think that that hair stylist should have won!

I know the bridge was the best. Headhunters was the second best. That lion do should have been dead last.

I was asking myself the same exact thing yesterday...and me and my sister both agreed that the Braid Bridge should have won...but when u think about it...Angelle's theme was pretty tight...with the black painted people and everything.

I thought that was weak too. They should have stuck with the real colorful theme of the semi-final section with the girl with the domino afro and the one with the "Skittles" on her eyebrows. I dont know much about women's hair but those hairstyles rocked. I enjoyed the Nefertitti/Egyptian theme too.

I agree, but if you look at all the hair styles that Angelle had from the begining those styles were better than the rest.

No way in hell did Angelle's win the hair show. The lion do did not even look like a weave to me--it looked like a lacefront wig, ie, it took no hair dressing talent at all! The headhunters space hairdo with the rotating do was much harder technically and probably would have won--and in recent black hair shows, those are the designs that are winning right now. Another very technically hard do was the bridge of hair. An excellent theme was also the Egyptian queen with the headdress entirely made of weaved hair--the very symbol of the black haircare association is Nefertetti the egyptian queen in profile and that design would have found high favor with the judges for that reason alone.

As the hairdos were made by consultants and the producers could have picked any of them to be Angelle's I believe this comes down to white Hollywood's concept about what is good versus what a real black hair show would have picked. Ie, a black woman outfitted as a wild animal in a cage( a stereotypical image that goes back to Josephine Baker)and leading black men on neck chains in an S and M fashion(S and M is huge in Hollywood and the white culture but not in the black community) with a nappy huge wig is more what white producers would think was cool rather than the bridge or the proud Egyptian queen theme or even the space theme. As Monique and the other actors were black and probably have seen some hairshows or at the least understand weaves versus wigs, etc, they should have spoken up and said this is weak and not technically hard enough and the other designs were better but they are not the producers so ultimately what got chosen reflects what the producers and director thought was aesthetically the best. It was an unfortunate and inauthentic choice and messed up the film's ending, to me.

excellent post blountsmd, I agree 100%. Maybe someone spoke up behind the scenes on how absurd it was for Angelle's weak theme to even be in the top 5 let alone beat out the others, but it's apparent whoever made that final decision was a grade A moron, it definatly ruined the ending.

i have no clue what any of that means...

I though i was alone is this as well. Clearly in the finals Angelle was the weakest. The bridge design should have won hands down.

I think most of us agree that Angelle's should NOT have won, but her salon dis so for the sake of the "story with a happy ending."

Definitely Headhunters should have won!
