Totally Lame

I just finished watching this, what a disappointment. I like low-budget movies sometimes, but this looked like it was filmed by some kids to be on youtube. And the story was like a bad fanfic from some nerd's website. I can't believe Nao Omori would reprise his role of Ichi to be in this amateur crap.
Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "Who cares if the movie is low-budget and the story is stupid? I'm a huge fan of Ichi the Killer, and I want to see gory special effects and awesome karate moves!" Heed my warning, this movie is NOTHING like Ichi the Killer. The fight scenes are boring, and the only gory special effect they can come up with is red paint around the nose and mouth of some of the actors. (And I use the term "actors" in the loosest possible sense.)
If you're a huge fan of Ichi the Killer and you simply must have more Ichi, look for the anime version, which is also a prequel. It's called Koroshiya 1: The Animation Episode 0. It's not that great either, but it's a million times better than this drivel.

I'm gonna have to disagree.

This is a prequel about the rise of Ichi... should it be like the first film? No, it shouldn't! I don't understand how that passed you by.

And yes, it looked cheap, but it didn't look like something from YouTube.

Also, I felt the fight scenes were, while not great, deffinitly passable for a film made on a low-budget in a short period of time. The opening fight sequence alone was very brutal, and pretty darned funny.

And since when was "Ichi the Killer" just about "karate moves and gory special effects", as you imply? It wasn't. It had martial arts (though not that much) and a lot of gore, but that wasn't the entire point of the movie. That is perhaps the most simplistic and just plain wrong analysis of any film I've ever seen.

It's okay to disagree with my opinion on this movie, but do you have to imply that I'm an idiot because I didn't like this piece of crap? Of course people are going to expect this movie to be like Ichi the Killer. It has Ichi in the title, and it even stars the same actor who played Ichi in the much better film by Takashi Miike. If I made a movie called "Star Wars Episode Ten: The Jedi's Rebirth starring Mark Hamill" people would be a bit let down if the movie was just me with a camcorder filming Mark Hamill drinking malt liquor and puking in the parking lot of the local 7-11. Similarly, most people who have seen Ichi the Killer are going to be surprised and disappointed when they see this prequel, which looks like it was filmed for about fifty bucks by unemployed guys who made up the story as they went along. But don't just take my word for it. Let's read what other people on these boards had to say about this piece of cinematic effluence, shall we?

This movie sucked big time! The acting was bad, the story was thin and the whole movie just looked like crap. The kids at my old high school made better movies than this. And the movie wasn’t funny, that’s what I liked about the first one, the dark twisted humor, but this movie didn’t have any of that. It was just a big waste of time.

This movie sucked harder than any movie I ever saw. The acting was HORRIBLE, the blood and action was fake. It looks like a little kid went to school with mommy's camcorder and asked people to pretend. Even the kids in my film class had made better movies with more realistic acting.

I seriously think it should be given away for free. I am amazed that there are people who see anything in this movie.
So there you have it. I'm not the only one who thought this movie stank like a drainpipe on a hot day. In fact many viewers find this movie to be pathetic and amateurish. So the next time you find that you are "gonna have to disagree" try not to come across like a prissy, condescending nerd.

I apologize, I didn't mean to imply you were an idiot. I just felt your overall analysis of "Ichi the Killer" was on the simplistic side. It's not that big a deal, everyone does it once or twice on IMDB, I didn't mean for you to take it so personally.

And as for your examples of people who didn't like it, I'm sorry to say there are also people on IMDB who DO like it, and have written positive things about it. The same argument could be made for ANY movie ever made, even the best of them.

You gave me crap about accidentally insulting you, and yet this is how you end your post. Right... way to totally negate everything you wrote with one single swoop!
