Not as appealing as Bombay + Dil Se

There is always something to look for in a Mani ratnam film and this one also has got that classy style of film-making with excellent AR Rahman music. Yet there is not the same intensity and gripping story-flows as in Bombay or even Dil Se. The cinematography is not upto the high standards set by ratnam's team in earlier films. Mani Sir should have used a better cinematographer.

Yeah, everything you just posted is spot on. Yuva didn't really get to me like Bombay or Dil Se.

i believe that a movie is more about story, script, the direction and what kind of vision the director has. it also involves cinematography, music n all but it shouldnot matter much.. now Yuva is a superb movie... mindblowing.. dilse n bombay are good... but yuva is tooo good.
the characters lallan singh, arjun n michael are all unique and the three stories and there junction is very well managed by mani. and abhi is mindblowing... and so is rani.. i think it is a very bold movie. cos u would expect abhi's character to change ... which is so unreal...kudos mani

I think Yuva was a better film overall.
Yeah, it lacked commercial appeal, but the plot and lessons to be learned from the film are priceless.
The idea of younger generation wanting to go overseas to earn money is very relevant to today's day and age. The ones that are focused in making their corrupt city a better place is a rarity. Idealism is hard to find among the younger generation.

Apart from that, the actors did a great job and the direction was smooth yet fresh. The music of course rocked, I think the best part was the authenticity of the character with respect to their financial situation.... You didn't see Lallan or his wife busting out into song in Switzerland, nor was Kareena Kapoor's character Versace-clad. It was all very believable, and almost real. Thank goodness to that!

Mani Ratnam is one of the best directors in Bollywood.

I agree... Swades was another movie that the new generation should watch.

Even Lakshya had a good message now that i think of it...

The thing that appeals to me so much about these films are the portrayal of these students. They are very normal and believable.
