Vet Hard becomes Too Fat Too Furious
I just read that Vet Hard becomes Too Fat Too Furious becouse the movie goes to Cannes! Can anyone tell me if this movie is coming out in the USA?
shareWhere did you read this? I'm interested. The English title is quite funny. I do wonder if it's true, because the most recent domestic gross figures were only 1/3 of the € 3,700,000 budget, and the last weekend gross was only € 30,000. That's not a big financial success. And mind you, Vet Hard is a great action movie, but won't make an impression in the States. Luckily it's also very humorous.
If Vet Hard goes to the USA, it will probably recieve an R rating for that brief bit of nudity (like Amsterdamned and De Tweeling). I don't expect it to win or get nominated for any Oscars for foreign language movies, because those are mostly given to dramas like De Tweeling, Der Untergang and Mar Adentro.
I'd love to see what American reviewers would think of Vet Hard (considering the fact that action-packed, stunt-filled comedies are a common good there; Bad Boys 2, anyone). It really was a great movie. I'm already looking forward to the other Dutch action movies this year (Famous Last Worlds and Deltastorm, directed by veteran Dick Maas).

I just read on the offical "Vet Hard" website, that they are in fact talking about a remake with the title "Too fat too furious". Go to www.vethard.nl en click on the link in the upperleft corner. (Of course, this website is dutch.)
That would probably make a good movie, although I don't think it would come off as anything really special. There are tons of movies like that in America, it would come off as a run-of-the-mill (no pun intended) Saturday evening popcorn flick. What made Vet Hard so great was the action. And big action movies are rare in the Netherlands, but not in America.

What do you mean? An action movie is a movie with action in it, regardless of additional genre elements such as drama, sci-fi, comedy, etc. And Vet Hard has action in it. Okay, it also depends on the amount of action, but there is a lot of action in Vet Hard, more than enough to label it an 'action movie'.
