i really expected 'skellig'...

...to be younger. now hear this: i LOVE tim roth, but i was really expecting a younger man to be cast. isnt that the point, that he turns out to be young looking after he starts getting better?

oh and question. so this is produced by a TV channel, so is it going to be a "made-for-TV" movie or will it be picked up by a big (albeit American) distributor and released into theatres? the latter sounds makes more sense financially IMO.

This movie will be appearing on Sky 1 on British TV on Easter Sunday As I live in the U.S. A., i am hoping this will be released in our theatres after that. I have read the book, and am so anxious to see the movie.

I think yes, he is meant to appear much younger looking in the end, but in the beginning if I remember rightly, skellig looks almost decrepit. He's wizened and withered and grey.

Tim Roth is not too old, and he brushes up well. I think he'll do a fine job; I can't wait to see it, it has a great cast!

I doubt this will be released in theatres. Sky 1 is still only a TV channel, and therefore it falls under the category of 'made for TV'. It's more likely that it'll go straight to DVD after, but I can't say for absolute certain what will happen to it in the US.

So that explains why Tim looks so... old and haggard in the trailers, sorry I haven't read the book (my son has) but I'm looking forward to it.

Ever watched Youth Without Youth? Tim Roth can look almost any age he needs to.

Also, Sky1 were behind the two latest Terry Pratchett movies, and both were later released on DVD by 20th Century Fox. I highly doubt Skellig will be shown in movie theatres, but i bet it will be out on DVD and maybe also picked up by one or more US cable channels.

EDIT: The DVD will be released by Universal on April 27th, and actually have a bonus feature on Tim Roth's makeup.

It is a TV drama so a cinema release in the US is unlikely since it has been aired on television in the UK. That said, before you worry that 'made-for-TV' equals rubbish, you need to remember that many British TV dramas tend to be made lovingly with top actors and solid scripts.

Have you seen the "Make Up" sequence on the DVD? They spend hours doing his face and he turns out looking exactly the same!

I agree. I expected someone a bit more scrawny-looking. I mean, Tim Roth is a great actor and he's a good choice, but I, personally, would have chosen Paul Bettany.
