................I didn't really get the point to this programme. Watched it for the first time this morning, have never read the book. Please can someone explain it to me, thanks in advance!

Er, I don't really understand what you mean by "didn't get the point". It's a film: you watch it and enjoy the story. That's the point! What's not to get?!

It's a 'heartwarming' story for children. Some might regard it as soppy. Children finding a strange character in a shed is a common theme - cf. Whistle down the Wind and Spirit of the Beehive. Shows children doing stuff that real children don't do, and knowing better than the grownups.

The book was excellent. I haven't seen the film, but I wonder how well it translates to film.
