Germany´s denying ANY affiliation to the makers of this unacceptable flick!

reply

Dear lord... yep, we're SO sorry we made this terrible movie! >_<

reply

WE didn't. SOME of us did. And therefore, I'm very sorry.

But we don't elect presidents who attack other countries... twice ;)

I can´t stand most of our comedy either but you americans gave us terriblr movie too.

@12467

I see your point - but don't think American cooking is better than British.
As a matter of fact, British cooking is... strange. But it has some one-and-only style. Where's the style in American food? I don't see it. Just fat.

btw: What do you mean by "wasn't really elected"? Do you confess that the "oldest democracy of freedem liberty brave blablabla" is some banana republic?

Would everyone please stop saying that we germans love The Hoff? Seriously, I've been reading about it in a lot of posts recently, where did that come from?! He may not be hated but he's defniatly not a topic of discussion for anyone here. Nobody talks about him, I don't know anyone who still watches his shows, please tell me where this thought of germans liking David Hasselhoff came from?

"I miss you more than that movie missed the point"

reply

[deleted]

maybe I'm just making new enemies to me- but Mr. Bush was elected. Legally. Please inform before you simply repeat what Bild and other media might have told you.
Godd Night, and Good Luck.

@gdwarf
I agree with you.

And I didn't like Hasselhoff in the 80s! I didn't like Michael Knight's hair! I didn't like K.I.T.T.'s voice!

As teenie, I used to watch Baywatch, but Hasselhoff wasn't the reason.

reply

gdwarf: "One of my former girlfriends came from Germany and she loved David Hasselhoff ... she told me that his song "Looking for Freedom" would be a kind of unofficial hymn for the German reunion..."

HE made that up and it´s bullshed! Always been.

"... I always thought that it would be "Wind of Change", performed by the Scorpions ..."

That´s closer to it. And sad enough. Germans listen to a lot of *beep* music (Pur, Scorpions, Dieter Bohlen, Die Prinzen, Daniel Küblböck, Yvonne Catterfeld, to name only some of the homemade napalm) but David Hässlich-Doof is forgotten. His two (?) records are mainly offered on fairground markets for not more than a few cents and still don´t leave the boards.

"...During the nineties, David Hasselhoff's music, TV shows and movies were mostly successful in Germany - and the rest of the world was wondering why..."

Don Juan de Berlin: "As teenie, I used to watch Baywatch, but Hasselhoff wasn't the reason."

Right! It was for the girls. And "Knight Rider" was the eighties when it was simply one of the first series from the US to hit the german TV-sets.
In the meantime a crappy german TV-series titled "Derrick", showing the most boring, squareheaded and non-dimensional TV-cop ever was a big success in many other countries - so what? People make mistakes all over the world. Only the cast and crew of "7 Zwerge" made the same mistake twice now. They propably cast Hoff in the next sequel and think it´s a good idea.
The only bright idea of Hoff was his performance as the german headcoach in "Dodgeball" were he fully intentional made a fool out of himself - and us. Oh, maybe there´s still hope.

reply

@HuskyEnzo

Right!

BTW: Hoff's Freedom as hymn for the German reunion? No way! Scorpions? Maybe. Nenas "Wunder geschehn"? Probably. Westerhagens "Freiheit"? Definitely.

reply

So push for changes in the voting laws if you feel ripped off (otherwise sftu).

reply

Isn't voicing a political opnion on the unfairness of political instittions a way of "pushing" for changes. And was he or she even seeking political action or explaining the technicalities of the electoral college to some people who may have not been paying attention to American politics in 2000.

But maybe your right. The best way to push for change is probably to feel ripped off in silence and otherwise stfu. Yup.

reply

Hahahaaaa... genau.

But still: We are sorry for this movie.

reply

What about the Third Reich? I seem to recall a brief stint of German aggression a mere 60 years ago...

Germany should be thanking the producers of this movie, as they have proved you DO have a sense of humor! It just showed here in Australia and I love it!

reply

yep, fan-fu.cking-tastic

oh and "british cooking" thats a oxy-moron isn't it?

reply

im SOO confused now!! how did president Buch get elected, if he was not voted? and what does "Und Deine Großeltern haben 1938 Freudentränen geweint" mean? so sorry that i cant speak German!

reply

In US presidential elections, the voters actually vote in a group of people called the "electoral college" rather than directly electing the president. Each state has a fixed number of electoral college members, and the bigger the state's population, the more electoral college members they have. California has the most (55). In each state, each presidential candidate has a group of people who pledge to support that candidate if they are elected to the college. If Bush and Gore are running for election, whichever of them wins the vote in California gets to have all 55 of their supporters to become members of the college. When the entire electoral college is chosen (538 people altogether), they then vote to decide who is president.
Therefore, it's possible for one candidate to win the majority of electoral college members (and become president) even if they did not have the highest number of votes from the entire American public. This happened to George Bush in the 2000 election, even though his opponent Al Gore got more votes from the general public. To complicate things, the vote in Florida was so close that it was tested in court, because there had problems with vote counting and other things. The courts eventually decided that Bush had won in Florida, thereby giving him Florida's 27 electoral college seats, and the presidency.
I don't speak German either, but a computerised translation gave me "And your grandparents wept tears of joy in 1938." 1938 was the year that Hitler sent troops into Austria to claim Austria as part of the German area of control. This event, often referred to as the "Anschluss", was the key political event in The Sound Of Music.
Hope that helps.

reply

Hey, I'm German and I loved it!

reply

hehe some prejudices, but all in good faith ;-)

just let them be, they need everything delivered with a sledge hammer, and a comedian is most successful if there is an announcer who calls "AND NOW VE VILL ALL LAUGH AT THE KOMEDIAN, JA?" and if he himself wears a sign "I AM FUNNY"
on the other hand, quiet, brainy, subliminal and deep art films aren't exactely aiming for the US market either...

Is this movie meant serious?

this movie sucks arse and it has nothing to do with the germans having no humor. 7 dwarfs is aimed at the average german TV audience. They of course know nothing about german cinema because they don't show good german movies on TV (well maybe after midnight). They don't dare to show anything interesting or thought-provoking or unusual because that would steal them money-oriented-stuffed-down-your-throut-until-you-like-it type of productions the show.
Otto Walkes was actually a pretty good comedian in the 70s, nowadays he lost all his wits and goes for the down-your-throut stuff.

As for modern german comedy - it comes all down to Helge Schneider and his avantgardistic
anti-humor and anti-entertainment performances in the early 90s. It works like this: You start telling a joke involving a really long story, while looking and acting strange and talking with a funny voice, and then the joke is over without there being a point or actual plot.

Everyone was fascinated with this person (me too, his first record "es gibt reis" was mind blowing for the time and he's also a brilliant jazz musician) and tried to somehow emulate his style. RTL Samstag Nacht (a german version of the "Saturday Night Life" concept) was the first show to experiment with this Helge Schneider-style (be smart, be stupid was the catchphrase). It was actually pretty funny at times but when the show was canceled it all went downhill and still does. They focused on that particular style because it basically means to do no effort to entertain people. But the difference between modern german comedy and Helge Schneider is: While Helge attempted to irritate only to find people laughing about their own dumbness, TV shows just use it as an excuse to not write actual jokes or sketches. They constantly refer to H. Schneider as a kind of godfather but only to deliver a half assed, dumbed down version of it with no personality behind it. It's disgusting.

There is just no space in public TV for good stuff anymore, because that would mean to actually WORK on good material (well, "Stromberg" was quite good). There's good independent stuff though, like Heintz Strunk or Christian Ulmen wich is slowly seeping through...
We had Heintz Erhardt, Loriot, Ekel Alfred,... They were brilliant, especially compared to people like Atze Schroeder and the likes.

Yes, I'm done.
