this movie sucks like hell

i thought it would be a nice idea to see some south american release in order to get the idea how the whole thing its going... but what a fiasco i get!
this is a damn f### hole since the begining and the supposed "femme fatale" actress its so bad and unreal that you cant imagine how she was choosed as the "sicarii" character in the first place.
the whole plot is a vacuun space of interrupted sequences and theres no continuity at all, besides theres a lot of common spots here and there and the dumbest mind can anticipate the end with just seeing 15 minutes since the beginning...
if this is called "good" cinema in south america i think they are really out of their minds.

reply

Of course you know the end in the first 15 minutes, because the end is the start of the whole history

reply

i meant to say that the movie its flat line. nothing is new after the first 15 minutes.
the acting is so damn bad in general. the girl used as murderer is not real, she seems like a model or something, not like a hardcore murderer.
in few words this is a waste of a film.

reply

I agree . I expected so much from the movie. They failed to translate the spirit of the book into the fil. They changed a number of elements that made the story so interesting. Even the person who kills her is different.

Oh asmodeux, it pains to hear you might judge south american cinema from one movie! It's like judging all of American cinema by Transformers or Wim Wender's movie's by Don't Come Knocking.

A good first movie is City of God (Brazil) then see Nine Queens (Argentina), Maria Full of Grace (Colombia, sort of) and you can go from there. A LOT of south american cinema deals with crime and violence even if its a drama or comedy... probably since there's a good amount of it down there. Places like Argentina, Chile, and Brazil have an awesome film industry.. especially the Argentinians but their movies are a little hard to find, El Abrazo Partido is a really good one by Daniel Burman... he's like the Argentinian woody allen and we haven't gotten a single flick here. Em, just keep looking around man.

you guys are not prob colombian so you dont get the whole sense of it and thats why you dont think its a good movie....its a very good story (i just hoped they could of talk paisa better)she does talk like one but the others talk a lil weird not how paisas really talk

reply

I agree this movie is not very good, not because you can anticipate the end, but the acting of flora martinez and the mexican guy is pretty bad.
I though she could be good because I actually could see Flora martinez as rosario tijeras ( I imagine Rosario like that when I was reading the book) but once she talked all the magic dissapers.
I actually think that photography and production in general is OK for a Colombian movie.
If you want to see a good Colombian movie you should check la esttrategia del Caracol directed by Sergio Cabrera (i dont know the name in english) or la gente de la universal.

That movie captured medellin pretty well , you have to be colombian to really understand the movie,.......It is the same thing with colombian listening to country music....

I dont blame people for not understanding the movie , just try to be open....

P.S Rosario was hot, and there is nothing unreal of that , You dont have to be ugly to kill someone

reply

i am colombian and i think this movie is *beep* over dramatic, extremely slow, boring, pointless, FAKE (the fake paisa accent is unforgivable) acting, fake feeling, fake music! the music and the cars where not like that in the 80s. i know its a stupid detail but it just adds up. it feels like a spanish movie, the fakeness of the acting... and that mixing up of time, flashbacks etc etc is really ordinary, boring, and unnecessary
somebody mentioned up there that "la estrategia del caracol" , go see that movie to get a lot more of the essence of colombia. "la vendedora de rosas" too... even "betty la fea"!!!

It was too slow moving, and too many scenes showing Rosario being depressed. She is that way throughout the movie. I can understand the character, but there were too many scenes that didn't need to be in the movie. My husband liked the Medellin scenes though.

true. but when youre a bad actor and without character nothing improves the final balance.

I don't know but this movie is showing on Max in Demand and just watched it. I never heard of it before nor the book and the actress who played the lead role of Rosario was riviting. I said to myself who is she and why isn't she a big star. Way better then a lot of actresss that are big names. She had a Angelina Jolie type quality to her.

Hers was a very difficult role for a person to pull off. Being a kick azz hope to die women with a gun and at the same time be very sympathetic. Also her sexuality was very liberating in a way. She is the boss and I'm not taking no sh*t from nobody and I going to screw who I want. Women in movies are rarly take charge characters. Even though she had a weak side when it came to her mother, and her childhood. I like that they did not dwell on the what had happened to her. it would of dragged the movie to a stop.

Also to me it gave a birdseye veiw of the street culture on the 80's in Columbia. Which was very interesting in itself. I want to add I think the men in the movie were the weak links. I couldn't tell Emilio from Antonio. But who cares they were secondary characters. Al Gore could of played both roles it would not had made a difference because the story was around her and she was the star.
It was a very good movie I wasn't expecting anything because I never heard of it and I think it did its job of entertaining me, I am going to watch it again just to see her performance again and since I do not understand Spanish I will see if I missed anything in the subtitles. I have seen some stinkers in my life I actually seek them out to get a laugh and this was way far from being a stinker.

I thought the movie was pretty good and entertaining. I'm not Colombian so I can't tell a paisa accent from caleƱo, but they all sounded very Colombian too me, even Unax Ugalde, so I give them props. Obviously a movie will always pale in comparison to the book so that is a moot point. Loved trhe non-linear story, the story was very original and not predictable at all,Flora was very good, and she was indeed very pretty but I have met Colombian girls of humbe extraction that are very pretty so it's not far fetched that a hot colombian may be a sicario. OverallI gave it a 9 out of 10.
