An Oscar for Close, no doubt

Saw it at Sundance Wednesday. Mark my words, this movie is going to be Glenn Close's first Oscar.

reply

yeah, i'm been hearing that glenn and james marsden give the best performances!!

reply

i really hope James Marsden gets an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this.

reply

I think it will all depend on how the film is marketed come Oscar time.

From how I see it, I think Best Actress noms this year will be:

Glenn Close, Heights
Felicity Hoffman, Transamerica
Uma Thurman, Prime
Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line
Zhang Ziyi, Memoirs of a Geisha

Hopelessly in love with Uma Thurman and Emmy Rossum

reply

I hope she goes for supporting, since it really is a supporting role and she would win in a heartbeat in that category, but she might have trouble winning in the lead category.

reply

not looking that way now

Enid: So what was all that about enlarged holes and tight cracks?

reply

Yeah really...too bad though! I love heights! It was fabulous...very well done.

Think about that Uma Thurman thing though... just dont think "Prime" is Oscar materiel.

Janet Reno you box dirty!!! Then how comes my conscience is so clean???

reply

Yeah, it's too bad. But shows how political the awards season is. There haven't been ANY "For your Consideration" ads for Glenn Close in the trade papers (Variety, Hollywoood Reporter), which really determines whether people are considered for GGs or Oscars or not. And Sony Pictures Classics doesn't seem to want to push her. It's sad. A few influential distribs. really determine the awards every year, regardless of who deserves them.
