Man in the Yellow Hat

When I was growing up, I NEVER thought that the Man in the yellow hat had a name. So when I saw this movie, I was very frustrated that he had a name (ted). Plus, he was ridiculously clumsy in the movie and that was not the case in the show. Was anyone else frustrated by these two things?

Other than that, I liked this movie, but the show is still better as far as I am concerned.

I was also irritated with the fact that they named him. It would have been pretty easy to just leave his name out in the movie (people calling him "hey you" and such). But I was less annoyed with the clumsiness, I thought it made him endearing and helped make George even more of a foil to his character so he'd learn from him.

Really? When I was a kid it always kind of creeped me out that he had no name! I think Ted was a perfect name for him, and made him so much more endearing.

Even when watching the movie, I did not realize he had a name until my sister said "Ted...." and I asked who are you talking about... I only know him as the man in the yellow hat and even though they said his name countless times through out the movie I must have missed when they said them.

reply

the only reason it irritates me is because he never had a name before. It was typical hollywood, changing something that it never was and was perfectly fine before.

That name has significance you don't understand .

reply

What is the significance then?

Because this movie explains how everything started between George and the Man in the Yellow Hat, they decided to begin the movie before he even got his trademark hat. Sure, they didn't have to do that, but I think explains alot. I know, I know, they didn't have it, but they decided to. So anyway, they had to give him a name since he started out in the movie w/o his yellow hat. It doesn't bother me.

I liked how he had a name, but I didn't like the clumsyness.
A deleted scene shows his name as being Ted Shackleford.

I also liked him having a name. Do you honestly expect them to make an entire movie with one of the main characters being referred to as 'that guy'? its easier to to refer to someone as 'the man in the yellow hat' in narrative (i.e. in the books) but for other characters to refer to a college/friend/love-interest/nemesis/son-he-never-had-despite-already-having-a-son, without a name? in the books it can be understandable, but for an entire movie where we're expected to believe this character; he should at least deserve a name...

The fact that the movie is sort of written from Ted's perspective (sorry; The man in the yellow hat's perspective) would make it even more difficult for the audience to really care about him, when the other characters (his supposed close ones) don't even care enough about him to even refer to him by his full name.

We've come to the conclusion that The Bird is greater than or equal to The Word.

yeah that bothered me right away, hes just the man in the yellow hat. NOT TED.
